    This is a new program as part of our alliance with one Austrian - German Cultural Community in the Peruvian Amazon. This community has a combination of historical customs from Austria and southern Germany as well as Amazonian influence. Therefore, a culture exchange can be beneficial for both sides. We believe that by preventing the youth of this community from losing the German language of their ancestors, they will be able to keep their culture alive.

    Once these young people have the basic knowledge of the German language, another of the projects that we have in mind to work in the future with this community is to send these young people to different volunteer programs in Germany.

    We are looking for native German-speaking volunteers who have the ability to create different teaching strategies such as, playing games, singing, storytelling, acting and other activities. The focus should be on developing curiosity about other cultures and to experience language as a communication tool and part of a culture.

    Volunteers can also design workshops for kids or adults such as football matches, arts and crafts, environmental education, drama and so on. The idea is to connect the new language abilities with positive emotions.

    Volunteers could build teaching materials such as posters, cards and games with vocabularies to subject or writing down songs, rhymes and so on for other volunteers.

    We will teach German to three groups for 3 days a week. The first group are children between the ages of 6 and 9. The second group are children aged 10 to 14 years old. The third group are 15 years of age and older.

    Volunteers help teaching up to 15 hours a week.

    Tagesablauf

    Typical Day Description:

    Weekdays (Monday-Thursday): Usually, volunteers spend breakfast together and prepare class for the afternoon classes. Every Monday there is going to be a short staff meeting. Monday to Thursdays 3:30-6:30pm German lessons for children and afterwards adults. Occasionally during language classes workshops are held outside like going with a group of kids to pick trash or making art out of plastic. These workshops are also fun activities and different songs and games in German or Spanish will be used to gain a feeling of connection. The evenings are free, usually volunteers gather and cook together, visit local restaurants, pubs, etc.

    Weekend (Friday - Saturday - Sunday) Depending on the weather and the group of volunteers, we offer excursions to local sights such as waterfalls, swimming in the river, visiting natural reserve or a fruit plantation, camping and fishing.

    On some weekends we are planning scout trips, which can be over night in tents or day trips. Depending on our destination the group will take transportation and then continue to hike or hike all the way to our base. There we will put up the tents, make a fire and explain to the kids the important rules. Volunteers can offer group games, singing songs, but also educational games such as observing different bird songs, collecting plants, using magnifying glasses and binoculars, sketching animals and so on. We close the day together at the campfire. 

    If there is a group of at least five volunteers who are interested, we can offer a trip to a native community. Transportation costs for this excursion and other expenses are not included in the package.

    Volunteers can also do the following activities during their free time:

     

    - Explore the Amazon rainforest

    - Play sports with locals such as soccer or volleyball 

    - Ayahuasca Ceremony with local shaman (extra fee)

    - Visit indigenous communities (with previous permission) (extra fee)

    - Visit the Boiling River (extra fee)

    - Visit other Austro-German Communities - Oxapampa - Pozuzo (extra fee)

    - Boat trips and more... (extra fee)

    Mindestalter: 18 Jahre

    Um an diesem Programm teilzunehmen, musst du zu Programmbeginn mindestens 18 Jahre alt sein. Es kann Ausnahmen geben, wenn du die Erlaubnis deines/r Erziehungsberechtigten vorlegen kannst oder wenn du von deinen Eltern begleitet wirst

    Sprachkenntnisse

    Du brauchst folgende Sprachkenntnisse: Deutsch (Fließend) oder Spanisch (Grundkenntnisse)

    Ausbildung

    German, Environmental, History, Geography, Biology, etc auf High School Niveau

    Dienstleistungen vor Ort

    We are a non-profit organization and as such we do not distribute any surplus income as profit or dividends. Nonetheless, just as a for-profit organization, we have costs for our operations which we need to cover in order to be able to exist. By being a non-profit, we can keep costs down and make our placements more accessible than other programs. We aim to keep our operational costs as low as possible by working efficiently, ensuring that we can make a real and positive impact in the present and are able to keep the organization moving forward into the future. One of our main sources of regular income are the financial contributions from our volunteer/interns for their placements, without these we would not be able to pay our staff or sustain our organization. Your financial contribution also directly funds our projects, so you are having a positive impact just by signing up.

    Volunteers will get 5 different trips to the Amazon including a camping trip. Transportation expenses during the week of adventure package is included.

    Volunteers will also participate in a chocolate making workshop.

    Unterkunft

    Volunteers stay in one of our shared huts (cabins). Toilette and shower are located in our backyard. We will provide photos of the accommodation if required. Depending on availability, a bedroom can be shared by three volunteers, two volunteers or bedrooms can also be private for one volunteer. We provide a bed, mattress, bedsheets, blanket, pillow and mosquito net. We also provide hammocks for relaxing time as well as tents for camping trips. Wi Fi is also provided 24/7 in all our huts (cabins).

    We do not provide food for this volunteering program. However, we provided a full equipped kitchen where volunteers can prepare their own food at any time.

    We receive volunteers the whole year round. 

    We suggest volunteers to arrive on weekend so we together can explore our village attractions before starting our volunteer work on Monday. However, volunteers are welcome to arrive at any day of the week.
