By helping to build and renovate essential educational facilities, you’ll directly contribute to the well-being and future of local children and their families.
Under the guidance of a local coordinator, you’ll work alongside community members on various construction and improvement projects. From bricklaying and carpentry to painting, waterproofing, landscaping, and gardening, your efforts will help enhance the community’s infrastructure and create safer, more functional spaces.
You’ll help paint classrooms, build tables and chairs, repair playgrounds, create walkways, construct toilets, and even assist with new classroom projects. There may also be opportunities to support renovations at community centers or homes when needed.
Safety is always a priority, so you’ll receive guidance on using construction tools and can ask for assistance with heavy or unfamiliar tasks. While the work can be physically demanding, it’s an incredibly rewarding experience—giving you the chance to make a tangible difference while immersing yourself in Madagascar’s vibrant culture.

Your Role
As a volunteer, you’ll play a key role in enhancing community spaces through various hands-on projects, including:
- Construction Work – Lay bricks, paint buildings, craft furniture, repair playgrounds, build classrooms, and more.
- Renovation & Infrastructure – Assist with waterproofing, landscaping, gardening, and improving sanitation facilities.

Location
Nosy Be (meaning ‘big island’) is an absolutely stunning island off the north-west coast and is Madagascar’s largest and busiest tourist destination. The population is estimated around 73,010 and the island has an area space of 320.02 square kilometres.
On Nosy Be island you will find volcanic lakes, lemurs, rum distilleries, Ylang Ylang plantations and beautiful coral reefs. There is just so much to explore on this amazing island! In May, you can experience the 4 day Donia Music Festival. Situated on the Indian Ocean, on Nosy-Be island you can relax on the best white sand beaches, take a boat trip through the jungle, go trekking to see lemurs or snorkel alongside turtles and manta rays in the clear waters.
