SustainMe is dedicated to empowering underprivileged children and families by promoting literacy, education, and equitable access to knowledge. Across many communities in Uganda, children face significant barriers to education, including a lack of resources, limited access to books, and insufficient learning support at home or in schools. These barriers negatively affect children’s cognitive development, creativity, critical thinking skills, and overall potential. Literacy is the foundation for lifelong learning, social participation, and personal empowerment, yet for many children, it remains an inaccessible privilege. By establishing the Elsom Community Library, SustainMe has created a safe and inclusive space where children can access books, learning materials, and structured support to improve their literacy skills.
Through this program, SustainMe aims to bridge the gap in education by ensuring that children have access not only to reading materials but also to guidance and mentorship that can help them develop confidence, curiosity, and critical thinking skills. The library serves as a hub for knowledge, creativity, and community engagement, fostering a culture where children can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. By volunteering as a Children’s Literacy Mentor, individuals will play a crucial role in this transformative work, directly impacting children’s lives by nurturing their love for reading, encouraging educational exploration, and helping them develop skills essential for personal and academic growth.
