    About the program

Healthy People, Healthy Community is a community-based health volunteer program that connects students and volunteers with local healthcare centers in Ghana. The program focuses on supporting community hospitals, clinics, public health education, and outreach efforts while working alongside local medical professionals.

Volunteers assist with non-clinical activities such as patient support, health education, basic screenings (under supervision), clinic organization, and community wellness programs. Through hands-on service, participants gain exposure to global health systems, learn about public health challenges, and develop cultural awareness and leadership skills that is different from their home countries.

Teach on the Beach is partnered with two hospitals thus Dixcove Hospital and Agona Nkwanta Hospital and a local clinic "Busua Clinic" with the goal of offering various form of support to improve healthcare in this field. Since Dixcove is 10 mins drive away and more closer to our center, we mostly allow volunteers to volunteer there. But there are options available which we discuss during the volunteer orientation on day two of arrival to allow volunteers to freely decide.

Volunteers will be working 5 days a week from Monday to Friday. Volunteers will be assisting and working with medical doctors, patients and healthcare staff at the hospital depending on their role but with clear supervision.

You wake up, breakfast is served at 7:30 am after volunteer makes their way to the hospital. So time is from 8:00am-12:00pm

After 12 volunteer returns back home from their work in the hospital.

A Teach on the Beach staff/coordinator  will quide volunteers  through their  first week of volunteering to help them to easily navigate their way to work and back and also settling in their new environment.

Volunteers will be living at Teach on the Beach house and go to work at Dixcove or Agona Nkwanta Hospital provided which hospital the organization decides.

We expect all our volunteers to have compassion and empathy, maintain professional behavior, team work, respect for boundaries, and to show the willingness to learn under a new environment.

Teach on the Beach will ensure volunteers are properly orientated and supported throughout their service and provide clear roles and responsibilities.

Volunteers can bring along their own scrubs.

At the end of volunteer service, Teach on the Beach will acknowledge every volunteer and present a certificate of completion. We are also open to provide reference support when needed.

Also transportation is by walking, bike ride or by taxi. Most taxi transports are the cost of volunteers themselves.

After volunteers are back from work, we have 10 minutes to talk about their day to see if they have any problem and if they do we try to solve it. Later they can engage and connect with the locals in the community as a way of making new friends and being part of the community.

There are various fun activities like surfing, joining games night at the beach, swimming, music and dancing, bonfire nights and day trip the the surrounding communities.

On the weekends, Teach on the organizes small weekend trips to places like Butre, Cape Coast (to learn about the slave trade and also go on a canopy walk and enjoying the night life) , Accra (Kwame Nkrumah Museum) and Mole National Park(to see elephants). But this is discussed over during the week and proper planning is done including costs by our volunteer coordinator.

We 'sometimes' accommodate dietary needs but we advice such volunteers to make arrangements with our cooking chef. In the past its been difficult for our chef handling dietary needs so we advice volunteers bring along extra dietary food when coming or can buy themselves some at the supermarket. But our chef is nice and  willing to support them but on the other hand also not responsible.

We have water (local sachet water bags around to use as drinking water if only you want but most cases volunteers get their own voltic water bottle at the kiosk on the street)
