This is not a programme where you travel thousands of miles just to stand at the back of a room.
Future Doctors: Pre-Med & Global Health Experience is designed by Medi Trip for students who are seriously considering medicine, nursing or another healthcare career and want to understand what healthcare actually looks like beyond textbooks, simulations and university prospectuses.
You’ll gain exposure to real healthcare environments, learn from local medical professionals and see how clinical care, public health, culture, resources and community needs all connect.
Depending on your interests, availability and placement schedule, your experience may include time across areas such as Emergency & Trauma, Obstetrics and Maternity, Paediatrics, Neonatal Care, General Medicine, Pharmacy, Mental Health and Community Health. You’ll observe how healthcare teams assess patients, communicate, prioritise care and make decisions in a very different health system.
For many pre-med students, this is the first time medicine stops feeling like an abstract career choice and starts feeling real.
You may also take part in community health projects, outreach activities, health education and partner-led initiatives, giving you a much wider picture of medicine than hospital exposure alone. You’ll begin to understand the social, financial and cultural factors that affect whether someone receives healthcare at all — an essential part of understanding global health.
This programme can be especially valuable if you are preparing for medical school applications, interviews or future healthcare studies. You’ll leave with genuine experiences to reflect on, a stronger understanding of the realities of healthcare and a clearer idea of the specialties and environments that interest you most.
And it is not all hospital corridors.
You’ll be living in one of East Africa’s most exciting regions, surrounded by students and volunteers from around the world. Weekends can be spent exploring Arusha, visiting waterfalls and Maasai communities, heading to Zanzibar, hiking around Kilimanjaro or joining a Serengeti and Ngorongoro safari.
Coming with friends or a university group?
Even better. Group discounts are available, making this a great option for pre-med societies, university groups, classmates and friends who want to travel together. Group programmes can also be coordinated around shared dates and interests, giving you the experience of discovering global healthcare together while still having your own individual learning experience.
You do not need to arrive knowing exactly which medical career you want.
You just need curiosity, maturity and a genuine interest in healthcare.
