    About the program

    Overview

You will be providing educational support to kindergarten children in Udaipur, aged around 4 to 5 years old, who are just beginning their school journeys.

Morning Sessions: You will teach at a local kindergarten in the mornings, as the afternoons is focused on teaching Hindi to children from primarily lower middle-income families. These schools aim to provide quality education to the children of tuk-tuk (autorickshaw) drivers, housemaids, office maids, unskilled labourers, and other everyday Rajasthani families with average facilities. The school’s teachers can translate basic English, but your support is needed to teach young children English.

The children will be thrilled to meet you and exceptionally welcoming, thanks to the natural friendliness of Rajasthani’s, especially children, and the rarity of meeting Westerners.

The teaching program is informal, much like kindergartens worldwide, where the children will be more interested in playing with you than ‘formal’ learning. Your help will boost their confidence and improve their English, benefiting them in many ways in the future.

The kindergarten school operates from 08:00 to 12:00.

    Key Points for Volunteers:
    • Be creative to make the project more interesting.
    • Adapt to the school administration, teachers, and children.
    • Stay organised and plan daily programs with teaching handbooks and coordinator input.
    • Be active and willing to research lesson planning, with guides available.
    • Communicate effectively with children and teachers, work as a team, and cooperate with the local coordinator or other participants.
    • Maintain a presentable appearance and gauge the capacity of different students.
    • Consult our Coordinators if you encounter any difficulties.

    Community Outreach School
Our Community Outreach program is located in Udaipur, where most children attend school, with some staying at the school’s boarding facility due to various difficulties. These schools primarily focus on the vernacular language, resulting in students needing training in written and spoken English, hygienic habits, environmental awareness, behavioural skills, and more.

At the community outreach centre, about 30 girls aged 10 to 16 attend the program. These children live in the school’s hostel facility as they come from distant, under-developed villages. Their families have odd jobs and earn very little, making it difficult to support their children’s education.

Evening Sessions: Assist in teaching these enthusiastic girls by helping with their homework. Classes are held in the evenings after regular school hours. Besides conventional teaching methods, games and activities may be used to teach the children.

The project runs from 16:00 to 18:00.

Purpose of the After-School Outreach Project:
    • To teach English and develop the children’s English skills.
    • To help children envision future white-collar jobs.
    • To promote hygienic and environmental awareness.
    • To impart behavioural skills for respectful interactions and gender relations.
    • To identify and develop the children’s talents.
    • To facilitate cultural and language exchange.
    • To take the children on educational outings to parks, museums, art theatres, and libraries to enhance their knowledge.

    Location

Our programs are close to Udaipur, often referred to as the “City of Lakes,” is a picturesque city located in the Indian state of Rajasthan. Nestled among the Aravalli Hills, it boasts a stunning landscape of shimmering lakes, lush greenery, and majestic palaces. Udaipur’s rich cultural heritage is evident in its well-preserved architecture, including the grand City Palace, the serene Jag Mandir, and the iconic Lake Palace situated in the middle of Lake Pichola.

    Project Tasks

The aims & objectives are to help the kids grow in their confidence and learn better English which will help them in many ways in the future and also to provide a global platform for the students of Udaipur by interacting in English and to share the best practices in the education system.
