About the Program:
SustainMe works to empower underprivileged children and families by promoting literacy, education, and access to knowledge. Many children in our community face barriers to education and limited access to books and learning resources, which hampers their development and future opportunities.

The Library on the Wheel Coordinator will be instrumental in this program by managing and expanding the mobile library initiative, bringing books and literacy resources directly to children and families who cannot easily access the Elsom Community Library. The volunteer will act as a planner, organizer, and community liaison, ensuring that literacy programs reach underserved areas and that children have the guidance and support needed to explore books, develop reading skills, and foster a lifelong love of learning.

Key Responsibilities:

• Plan and Coordinate Mobile Library Visits: Organize schedules, routes, and communities, and local events to maximize access to books and literacy activities.
• School Outreach Activities: Work directly with schools to conduct reading sessions, storytelling activities, and literacy workshops, promoting engagement and fostering a culture of reading among students.
• Establish and Manage Children’s Community Reading Clubs (CCRC): Set up local reading clubs where children can meet regularly to share books, participate in literacy activities, and develop peer learning and leadership skills. Ensure clubs are well-organized, inclusive, and sustainable.
• Promote Literacy in the Community: Lead reading sessions, storytelling, and interactive literacy activities during mobile library visits to inspire children and encourage engagement.
• Manage Books and Learning Materials: Transport, organize, and maintain books and educational resources for the mobile library program, ensuring materials are accessible and in good condition.
• Track Participation and Impact: Monitor children’s engagement, attendance, and book usage during mobile library visits and club activities to assess program effectiveness and identify areas for improvement.
• Collaborate with Community Stakeholders: Work with teachers, parents, community leaders, and library staff to expand literacy initiatives and identify communities most in need of mobile library services.
• Plan and Facilitate Mobile Literacy Events: Organize workshops, reading challenges, storytelling sessions, and community reading competitions to enhance children’s reading skills and promote a love for learning outside the library walls.
