    Enjoy this adventure in a truly unique medical environment, feel and learn about the delivery of healthcare services, while helping local staff in a hospital.

    This program is geared toward students or recent graduates.

    The volunteer will share space with doctors and other healthcare staff in a small healthcare facility or district hospital (depending on the needs at the time). Their level of experience, skill and ability will determine what tasks they will be assigned.

    Typical day

    The volunteer’s daily routine consists of collaboration from Monday to Friday for 4 hours a day.

    A typical volunteer day begins with breakfast at the accommodation with all the volunteers. At the end, the volunteers meet with the local coordinator to organize the activities planned for the day. ..

    The volunteer’s daily routine consists of collaboration from Monday to Friday for 4 hours a day.

    A typical volunteer day begins with breakfast at the accommodation with all the volunteers. At the end, the volunteers meet with the local coordinator to organize the activities planned for the day. Since they are located in the same community, they do not have to travel far.

    Throughout the morning, each volunteer contributes to the assigned tasks. There is a break for lunch and, depending on the needs, the tasks are continued or free time is available.

    The schedule may vary depending on the local coordination organization.

    The volunteer can visit nearby areas in his/her free time. In the evening the group has dinner and prepares for the next day.

    The general activities that you will carry out during your volunteering are:

    • Medical triage.
    • Dispense medicines.
    • Cures.
    • Primary care. 
    • Vaccination.
    • Family and pediatric care.

    The volunteers have breakfast together at around 7.30am, after which they will leave for a medical centre at 8.30am accompanied by the project leader. The day begins with a presentation at the centre by the staff.

    Volunteers show up every day after lunch. When there is time (this is not every day!) you can go to the beach or the village as a volunteer. Dinner is served at 7pm and everyone is expected to be inside. After dinner everyone stays at the volunteer house.

    During the weekend (from Friday afternoon to Sunday evening) all volunteers are welcome to go on excursions. Our local coordinator can help you organize your weekend excursion activities (if the volunteer requests support).

    Diani, located on Kenya’s stunning southern coast, is a tropical paradise known for its white sandy beaches and turquoise waters. It’s ideal for relaxing, swimming, snorkeling, and diving in vibrant coral reefs. The area also offers exciting water sports like kitesurfing and paddleboarding.

    In order to join the program you need to be at least 18 years old on the program start date. There might be exemptions if you can provide the permission of your legal guardian(s) or if your are accompanied by your parents.

    Accommodation

    Once you arrive you will stay in the volunteer house, located in Diani Beach. The volunteer house has rooms that you will share with other volunteers, you will also share bathrooms and common areas. The house has Wi-Fi and hot water, but it does not have a washing machine.

    Details on arrival

    Open all year round. You will work from Monday to Friday. You should arrive at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport or preferably Moi International Airport (Mombasa). Arrival on Saturdays for an induction at the weekend.
