    About the program

In Córdoba, Argentina, numerous children and adolescents are raised in challenging circumstances. Financial hardship, restricted educational prospects, insufficient nutrition, and health issues influence their everyday. They frequently lack secure environments that provide opportunities for personal growth, education, and a joyful childhood. In the absence of proper social support, these disparities are intensified, preventing many from accessing their opportunities and realizing their potential.

The innovative music academy, which employs repurposed musical instruments, can be found in four areas: Nuevo Progreso in the northwest, Ampliación Renacimiento in the east, Nuestro Hogar 3 in the south, and Alberdi close to the city center. This music academy is an initiative of a foundation that creates learning and development environments for children and adolescents in socially disadvantaged situations.

The aim is to encourage development, creativity, and self-recognition of their talents. Within the music academy, children can cultivate new abilities, establish routines, and unlock their personal potential. In this manner, the children are introduced to social values, musical heritage, and ecological education.

Volunteering at the music academy is not merely a chance to immerse oneself in different cultures; it's an opportunity to leave a significant impact on the lives of young individuals. By volunteering in Córdoba, you will assist in transforming the lives of children through music. Concurrently, as a volunteer, you will gain invaluable personal insights and enhance your skills.

    What the music academy provides:
Instruction for the following instruments: violin, clarinet, guitar, saxophone, xylophone, flute, cello, percussion, and singing.
Regular practice sessions and collective activities to enhance coordination and rhythm skills.
Showcases at local, regional, national, and provincial cultural festivals.
A strong focus is placed on fostering delightful shared experiences.
Constructing your own instruments from reclaimed materials or refurbishing old musical tools.

The Recycling Instruments Orchestra has been involved twice in the 'Trofeu Periféria' in Brazil. This accolade honors individuals and ensembles who contribute positively to underprivileged communities. The event is also referred to as the 'Oscar for the Quebradas.' It has been hosted by the non-profit organization ORPAS since 2005.

Volunteers do not need to bring special equipment. If you have your own instrument and want to bring it with you, you are welcome to do so, though. Volunteers are expected to be open minded toward a different culture, Volunteers should enjoy working with children and love music.

Your assignment at the music academy in Córdoba, Argentina, unfolds over sequential stages:

Explore to Discover - Experiencing Córdoba
This phase commences upon the volunteer's entrance into Córdoba and includes a guided exploration of the city, along with preliminary interactions with the foundation, its personnel, and the community where the volunteer efforts will be centered. This journey concludes with a collaborative evaluation of each volunteer's unique abilities to designate the responsibilities they will undertake within the program.

Work to Learn – Actively Participate

Throughout the program, volunteers are encouraged to explore and refine their leadership approach. In the concluding phase, they have the opportunity to launch their own social or environmental initiatives with the backing of the foundation and local partner organizations.

Following Buenos Aires, Córdoba ranks as the second-largest city in Argentina. Nestled in the center of the nation, it is encircled by the lush Sierra de Córdoba. This charming city merges a deep historical background with contemporary energy. As a hub of culture, Córdoba presents a wealth of offerings.
