    Art in Tanzania is developing young musicians and dancers in Tanzania. We focus on traditional African music with hectic drum rhythms and dancing. We are looking for Western artists to join the program for cultural exchange. We are also developing school music teaching.

    The work includes working in our Mzuka Records music program, joining band rehearsals, developing the shows, and teaching music.
    Currently, Tanzanian schools lack music instruction due to limited resources and funding. Art in Tanzania trains artists to be music teachers and introduces music teaching as a school curriculum.

    Our New evolving program is Music Therapy as part of the Art Therapy approach.
    Interns work in a team of international and Tanzanian multi-professional interns. We encourage innovation in the program approach.

    The working hours are 6-8 hours daily from Monday to Friday. This is an ongoing program, and we can adjust the starting dates.
    Interns work in teams of international students and volunteer professionals. Please contact us for information on customized and personalized programming. Arts in Tanzania's internships, facilities, and operations are also accessible for those with disabilities.

    This program helps the Tanzanian government include some art and music teaching in the school curriculums, which is more or less completely lacking due to the country's lack of capacities. It also gives work to Tanzanian artists.

    Music and dance programs include various activities, and your day is a familiar mix of the tasks below.

    Rehearsals. Art in Tanzania works with top Tanzanian Dance and Music artists. You participate in the weekly trials, commonly on the days when no-shows are booked. So, the program is not fixed. Rehearsals occur in various locations depending on where the performances will take place and, commonly, the instruments stored at that time. It takes all day when it is rehearsal work, as they happen in the city area.
     
    Music production is also an activity that can happen whenever there is work, even at nighttime. That is the typical life of music artists in Tanzania.

    School and other music teaching happen during school hours, sometimes after if it is an extracurricular activity. So it would be best if you were flexible here as well.

    Music as part of art therapy commonly occurs at the compound where you live and is a late afternoon program.

You can join our groups climbing Mt Kilimanjaro and move on to relax at Zanzibar beaches. We also have a variety of one-day programs for short breaks such as diving and snookering at the reefs, swimming with dolphins, rainforest trekking at Kilimanjaro, live African music, various sports programs, craft making as batik making courses, and so on. You will enjoy your stay in Tanzania.

    Minimum Age: 18 years

    In order to join the program you need to be at least 18 years old on the program start date. There might be exemptions if you can provide the permission of your legal guardian(s) or if your are accompanied by your parents.

    Other Skills

    Being talented in music and dance helps. Our Tanzanian artists the volunteers work with are highly professional and used to assist volunteers. However, if one selects art teaching, one must know teaching methodology. Here, our team will also help.

    Time Commitment

    Your helping hand will be required on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 12:00 - 18:00

    On-site Services

    The fee includes accommodation, breakfast, and dinner, program guidance with orientation and 24 hours of staff presence, and academic graduate team leaders for all programs.

    The actual program is free of cost. You may have local small transfer costs.

    For disabled participants, we can offer 24-hour assistance (if needed) at a USD 30 per week add-on cost.

    Cost does not include international flights, local transfers, tourist visas, and personal purchases.


    Accommodation

    Our eco-compound in Madale Village in the Dar es Salaam area has dorms, single, double and family rooms. As an eco-compound, we use our flush toilets with biograde septic tanks; we collect shower water and use it as "grey water" for our tropical garden irrigation. This compound is in Madale village, so it is a countryside place but a short distance from the city.

    We charge accommodation with breakfast and dinner only. 

    Food & Beverages

    We serve breakfast and dinner as part of the lodging cost at our compound. Lunches are not included, as most participants are out of the compound during the daytime. Local eating places around your placement at a low cost.

    All drinks are personal cost. Drinking water is available everywhere at a low price. We also run a compound bar, so you can easily access drinks and snacks.

    An airport pickup isn't included within the program fees either.
