Programs in Morocco begin every Monday. Volunteers are asked to arrive in Rabat on the Sunday before their start date for pickup and accommodation. Housing is provided from Sunday night through to Friday night of the final program week. If you arrive earlier or stay later than the scheduled dates, you can arrange extra nights directly with local staff.

Return transport to the airport is the volunteer’s responsibility, though local staff are happy to assist with arrangements.

Arriving by Air

• Rabat Airport: Most volunteers arrive via Rabat Airport, where you’ll be met by a local staff member holding a sign with your name. Once your flights are booked, it’s essential to share the details (airline and flight number) with the team so they can monitor for delays.
• Casablanca Airport: Casablanca is about an hour from Rabat and often has cheaper flights. Pickup from Casablanca is not included, but you can take a train to Rabat for around 90 MAD (US$9). From the airport, travel to Ain Sebaa, Casa Port, or Casa Voyageur station, then transfer to a train bound for Rabat Ville. Once your train is booked, contact your Program Manager to confirm pickup from Rabat station. More information on train schedules can be found here: ONCF Trains.

Arriving Overland

If you’re arriving by bus or train, plan to arrive in Rabat between 10:00am and 6:30pm. Notify the team in advance, and upon arrival, call your Program Manager (Mustapha) to arrange pickup from your accommodation or the station.

Volunteers are hosted by welcoming Moroccan families, often alongside other volunteers. These families receive support from your program fee to provide support, food and accommodation. Staying with a host family is a truly enriching experience, offering the chance to immerse yourself in Moroccan daily life, connect with locals, enjoy traditional meals, practice the local language (Darija – the Moroccan Arabic dialect), and take part in cultural customs and traditions. Living conditions are comfortable, with volunteers typically sharing a room (single gender) with one or two others, although in some homes private rooms may be available.

Some projects are within walking distance of the homestay and some require public transportation that costs approx. 6 MAD (0.6 USD) per ride. Transportation to the project is at the expense of the volunteer. 

Volunteers are provided with three meals daily (breakfast, lunch, and dinner). Bottled water is easily available and costs around US$5 per week (about 1.5 litres per day). If you have specific dietary requirements, simply let us know during your application so that we can accommodate your needs.

Moroccan cuisine is a delightful mix of Arab, Berber, and Moorish influences, combining Mediterranean fruits and vegetables with aromatic imported spices. Meals often begin with an assortment of hot and cold salads, followed by a hearty tagine (a slow-cooked stew), with bread served at every table. Couscous with meat and vegetables is another staple, while lamb and chicken are among the most common proteins. As Morocco is a Muslim country, pork and alcohol are avoided, but mint tea—served generously throughout the day—holds a special place in local tradition.
