Take part in the Sports Program in Cusco and help young people discover the power of sport as a pathway to confidence, teamwork, and healthy living. Volunteers support primary and secondary schools,  sports activities that encourage positive social behavior and active lifestyles.

They also educate children on general fitness, health and wellbeing in addition to their regular lessons at the school. It is up to the volunteer to plan lessons and design the teaching of their sport program.

Volunteer will be placed in projects including primary or secondary public schools. This is a school for children from 6 to 16 years old from poor neighborhood. They do not get a lot of help from the government, so all support is appreciated. The kids at the schools come from low income families. 

Key expectations from the volunteer involve professionalism, maintaining confidentiality, and possessing the necessary skills for the assigned role. Volunteers are expected to communicate effectively, be open-minded, and act as positive ambassadors. 

Volunteer tasks:

·       - Recreational activities (yoga, music, arts, crafts)

·        - Assisting teachers in preparing sports classes

·         - Teaching students about new sports

·         - Assisting and participating in sports training, competitions and school events

·         - Supervising children during recess and lunch

·         - Building up the self-esteem and confidence of the children

Children are extremely enthusiastic and willing to learn. While soccer is extremely popular in Peru, many volunteers have found it rewarding to teach children different sports (or popular sports from the volunteer's home country).

If a volunteer wishes to do this, they must plan ahead and often must bring the required materials and equipment themselves, as it is highly likely they will not be available in local stores and shopping centers here.
