Through this program, we support local schools in the Cartagena area by enhancing STEM education—both by delivering STEM-focused lessons and by providing essential equipment such as computers and laptops.

Your Role in the Program

As a volunteer, you will assist teaching staff at local primary, secondary, and high schools in suburban neighbourhoods. Your primary responsibility will be to support STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education, following the guidance provided by local educators. You will engage with students in dynamic and interactive ways, making learning enjoyable through activities such as:

• Mathematics (Algebra, Trigonometry, Geometry, Arithmetic)
• Science Classes
• Computer Learning & Coding (Internet safety, software programs, hardware)
• Engineering & Handicrafts
• STEM-Based Games & Activities

Your creativity and enthusiasm will contribute to broadening students’ exposure to STEM, fostering a deeper interest in these critical subjects.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist Local Teachers: Work closely with educators in STEM subjects, incorporating interactive tools, projects, and games to enhance engagement.
• Organise Extracurricular Activities: Plan and lead STEM-related workshops, games, and seminars to provide students with hands-on learning experiences.
• Develop Creative Lessons: Design innovative lesson plans to encourage student participation and enhance understanding.
• Promote STEM Skills & Cultural Exchange: Support students aged 5 to 18 in both STEM and English learning, fostering cultural awareness through global perspectives.
• After-School Involvement: Participate in additional school activities as needed to further support students’ educational growth.
• Lesson Preparation: Allocate time to plan well-structured lessons, ensuring an effective and organized teaching approach.
• Enhance Learning with Resources: Bring STEM teaching materials, including books, games, computers, tablets, and other educational tools. Share cultural items from your home country to introduce students to global perspectives.

As a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Cartagena’s walled city is filled with cobblestone streets, historic forts, and charming plazas that offer a glimpse into its colonial past. The city is also known for its beautiful beaches, such as Playa Blanca and Bocagrande, where visitors can relax and enjoy the tropical climate. Cartagena’s bustling markets, vibrant street art, and delicious local cuisine reflect its diverse cultural heritage.
