    About the program

In many parts of India, children are deprived of basic education due to poverty and lack of infrastructure. While government schools do exist in rural and slum areas around Jaipur, they often suffer from poor facilities, lack of supplies, and irregular teacher attendance. As a result, students miss out on consistent learning, and many families—struggling for livelihood—prefer to involve their children in labor rather than schooling.

Private schools exist but are unaffordable for most children from these communities due to high tuition and material costs.

To bridge this gap, Volunteering With India launched the Teaching Volunteer Program in 2007 with a mission to provide quality educational support and learning opportunities for underprivileged children in Jaipur’s slums and surrounding villages.

      Mission of the Project

Our mission is to make education engaging and accessible for every child, especially those in neglected areas. Alongside core subjects like English and Math, we introduce extracurricular activities such as sports, music, drama, and art, creating a joyful and creative environment for learning.

We also work to reduce dropout rates by motivating parents to send their children to school and understand the long-term benefits of education.

      Role of the Volunteer

As a teaching volunteer, you will:

      • Teach basic English, mathematics, and other subjects like arts and science

      • Help local teachers improve their English and classroom methods

      • Conduct creative sessions like dance, painting, music, and games

      • Foster a fun and interactive learning environment that encourages regular attendance

      • Motivate and guide children to build confidence and life skills

      • Assist in extracurricular or awareness activities in the school/community

No prior teaching experience is required — just a love for working with children and a willingness to contribute.

      Project Location & Daily Transport

You’ll stay with a welcoming Indian host family in Jaipur, offering a safe, culturally immersive experience. The project location is just 15 minutes away by tuk-tuk. We provide daily transportation to and from the school, ensuring a smooth and comfortable commute.

      Who Can Join?

      • Is passionate about making a difference

      • Enjoys working with children

      • Is open to learning about Indian culture and life in rural areas

      • Wants to gain global volunteering experience

Whether you're a student, gap-year traveler, retired professional, or someone simply eager to give back — this program welcomes you!

      What You'll Gain

      • Deeper understanding of rural Indian life and challenges
