The Diploma
Gain an internationally recognised NOCN Level 3 Diploma in marine conservation, plus academic credits, to go alongside your volunteer program. We’ve partnered with Centre for Global Citizenship Studies (CGCS), to offer a Level 3 diploma designed to help you gain the skills, knowledge and practical experience to make a real impact in the world. Even though it is UK based, you are able to transfer your credits internationally. In the UK, the diploma is the equivalent to 16 UCAS points. In Europe, it equals 20-21 academic credits, and in the US, it equals 10 academic credits.
What's Involved?
The marine conservation specialist module is the perfect compliment to your turtle conservation program. You will learn about the biodiversity that supports ecosystems and how we can ensure their survival. Develop hands-on conservation knowledge, like scientific survey methods and habitat restoration, to actively support marine health. Explore the complexities of marine resource conflicts and learn how Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) can help secure ocean conservation for future generations.
You'll also learn about cultural, social, political, and religious factors that may influence your volunteering experience, managing challenges, presentaion skills and volunteer responsibilities.
Complete your modules before, during and after your trip. The course is designed to provide you with the essential skills and knowledge needed for international volunteering. In total it is 36 hours of online study, plus a min of 20 hours on your volunteer program.

The Volunteering
Sea turtle conservation is of paramount importance due to the ecological, economic, cultural, and scientific significance these creatures hold. Protecting sea turtles not only ensures the survival of a unique and ancient lineage but also contributes to the overall health and resilience of marine ecosystems worldwide.
Volunteers are needed to help protect the endangered sea turtles of Indonesia. You’ll be wisked away by boat to an island 45 minutes from mainland bali. Depending on the time of year, you’ll be collecting turtle population statistics, identifying turtle species, collecting eggs, monitoring nests or releases hatch lings into the sea.
Life on the island is authentic with the beach literally on your doorstep however volunteers must be prepared for a more basic standard of living with much less entertainment and attractions than on the main land.
Volunteers will also assist the local neighborhood schools with English teaching, environmental education and sports. There are few native English speaking locals so having the opportunity to practice English speaking is very helpful to the community.
Location
Volunteers will stay on the beautiful island of Nusa Penida. Think bright blue waters, private caves, lush jungle, waterfalls, incredible marine life and a laid back vibe. The island is full of adventurous things to do, such as trekking to stunning viewpionts, diving, snorkelling and island hopping. Volunteers stay in a dedicated volunteer house located in the village and only 5 mintues from the harbour.
*PLEASE NOTE: All participants for the Education, Teaching, Construction, and Turtle Conservation projects, are required to apply for a C6 Social Cultural visa prior to arrival. Participants who have a Visa On Arrival or an E-Visa on Arrival will not be able to participate in these projects. Participants who only attend the culture, adventure, and yoga weeks will be accepted to join the programs with a Visa on Arrival. Going through an online agency or via our local team is the easiest way to obtain the visa.
**Exceptions to the C6 visa
Participants can join any program with a Visa on Arrival (VOA) for the following program types:
- 1-week culture week, plus 1 to 3 week volunteer program
- 1-week volunteer program
However, it is important to highlight that participants using a VOA must put 'tourism' for reason of visit.
We still encourage volunteers to arrive with a C6 visa for all programs. Please note that obtaining and using a VOA is entirely the participant's responsibility. We cannot be held accountable for any issues or concerns arising from this, as we are obligated to recommend the appropriate visa type for participants joining volunteering projects.
