    About the program

    Art in Tanzania focuses on helping educational programs in the nursery, primary and secondary schools in Tanzania.

    The Art in Tanzania Educational program is part of our Children’s Agenda approach, implemented by a coalition that includes UNICEF, Save the Children and others.

    About the program

    The Art in Tanzania Educational program is part of our Children’s Agenda approach, implemented by a coalition that includes UNICEF, Save the Children and others.

    We work in village nurseries and primary and secondary schools, but we run adult vocational training, where women are the focal point. The program also includes classes for children with disabilities.

    Participants are specifically needed to cover subjects where the schools are weak.

    Areas of development include English, arts and music, mathematics, and sports teaching. Interns also advocate for HIV/AIDS, health, and hygiene. We also highlight teacher-training activities.

    Classroom tools are also scarce. The school can have 40 students, so energetic and innovative teachers are needed.

    This is an ongoing program, and we can adjust the starting dates. The working hours are 6-8 hours daily from Monday to Friday. 

    Typical day

    Schools open in the morning, so you should leave the compound after breakfast at about 8:00 AM at the earliest. Some schools are within walking distance.

    You can select a half-day or full-day education option. Those choosing the half-day option commonly have other afternoon tasks, such as reporting, planning, curriculum and senior development, and similar tasks.

    All participants are to attend visibility and social media advocacy work.

    We have vocational educational tasks in the late afternoon, as women group members, adult students, and under-school-age children come to our compound to attend various education-oriented activities. You may try other subjects, such as Art Therapy sessions, entrepreneurship training, and handicrafts.

    Free-time activities

    You can enjoy low-cost safaris to Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater, and other National parks during your free time.     You can enjoy low-cost safaris to Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater, and other National parks during your free time. You can join our groups climbing Mt Kilimanjaro and move on to relax at Zanzibar beaches. We also have a variety of one-day programs for short breaks such as diving and snookering at the reefs, swimming with dolphins, rainforest trekking at Kilimanjaro, live African music, various sports programs, craft making as batik making courses, and so on. You will enjoy your stay in Tanzania.

    In order to join the program you need to be at least 18 years old on the program start date. There might be exemptions if you can provide the permission of your legal guardian(s) or if your are accompanied by your parents.

    On-site Services

    The fee includes accommodation, breakfast, dinner, program guidance with orientation, 24 hours of staff presence and academic graduate team leaders for all programs.

    The actual program is free of cost. You may have local small transfer costs.

    Cost does not include international flights, local transfers, charity volunteer visas, and personal purchases.

    Accommodation

    Our eco-compound in Madale Village in the Dar es Salaam area has dorms, single, double and family rooms. As an eco-compound, we use our flush toilets with biograde septic tanks; we collect shower water and use it as "grey water" for our tropical garden irrigation. This compound is in Madale village, so it is a countryside place but a short distance from the city.

    We charge accommodation with breakfast and dinner only. 

    Food & Beverages

    We serve breakfast and dinner as part of the lodging cost at our compound. Lunches are not included, as most of the participants are out of the compound during the daytime. Local eating places around your placement at a low cost.

    All drinks are personal cost. Drinking water is available everywhere at a low price. We also run a compound bar, so you can easily access drinks and snacks.

    Airport Pickup at Julius Nyerere International Airport

    An airport pickup isn't included within the program fees either.

    Flight Tickets

    The nearest airport is Julius Nyerere International Airport (DAR) in Dar Es Salaam. We assist you to find cheap flights to Tanzania. FIND CHEAP FLIGHTS

    Travel Insurance

    Details on arrival

    After we have booked you, we will send you a charity invitation letter for the online charity work visa application. The cost of the Charity volunteer or student visa is USD 50 for a maximum of three months. If you stay longer, we will assist with the new permit process.

    Our driver will be waiting for you at the airport, and you will receive program orientation on the first day after your arrival.
