    About the program

    Summary

Art in Tanzania is developing children's and youth sports programs at the village level. The main focus is on youth football and girls' sports activities. This program is also part of the Children’s Agenda approach, where our coalition includes UNICEF and other large organizations.

    Details

Tanzanian communities lack the capacity to run children's and youth sports programs. Often, children make their football grounds themselves and play with makeshift balls. Organized Coaching is rare.

Currently, Art in Tanzania is focused on developing youth football. We develop structures for village tournaments and select talented children for more advanced training. Tanzanian sports teachers voluntarily assist the program, and our task is to create a proper football education system. We are also developing girl’s teams and diversified coaching of other team sports.

Interns help to structure programs, train our Tanzanian coaches, advise about sports in schools, perform coaching activities with the local coaches, and organize tournaments.

Interns work in international and Tanzanian multi-professional internship teams. We encourage innovation in the program approach. Mr. Francis Hoti tutors this work.

We are looking to expand our international volunteering and internship program to empower our work in Tanzania. This is an ongoing program, and we can adjust the starting dates.

    Typical day

Sports activities take place after school and working hours. Our sports programme takes place mainly in the village where we live so the distances are short.

Those attending the school sports hours will teach more to the schools starting at 9 a.m. We need to schedule the work on the curriculums in the schools, preferably combining 2 to 3 schools per day to get enough hours.

Then, when the kids come back home, we run the village sports program, with football as the main focus, but we can also introduce other sports.
We commonly run tournaments between different parts of the village for teams of different ages, and we also emphasize keeping girls' teams going. It is very hectic, as football is the most important thing for an African kid.

All the above happens between PM 4 and PM 6.30, and then it becomes dark.

On weekends, we support the older people's weekend training/rehearsal activities, such as aerobics, jogging, and similar activities, and at the same time, we can perform health advocacy activities.

We highlight social media content to increase visibility for your and our work and deliver health advocacy. Our Facebook page has about 19,000 likes, and it is a great tool for reaching the Tanzanian public.

    Accommodation

Our eco-compound in Madale Village in the Dar es Salaam area has dorms, single, double and family rooms. As an eco-compound, we use our flush toilets with biograde septic tanks; we collect shower water and use it as "grey water" for our tropical garden irrigation. This compound is in Madale village, so it is a countryside place but a short distance from the city.

We charge accommodation with breakfast and dinner only.

    Food & Beverages

We serve breakfast and dinner as part of the lodging cost at our compound. Lunches are not included, as most participants are out of the compound during the daytime. Local eating places around your placement at a low cost.
