In this program the project is committed to supporting the life and dignity of all through the power of clean water. Volunteers focus on providing water to those in conflicted areas.
Through filtration, WASH (water, sanitation, and hygiene) education, community focused water systems, and emergency relief, we work to fight the global water crisis both abroad and at home.
FILTER DISTRIBUTION
For communities that have access to a water source but are still suffering from contamination, filters can be life changing. Volunteers and donors will visit a ceramic water filter factory, where innovative clay filters are created that remove impurities in the water. These ceramic filters can last 10+ years with proper cleaning, and have been shown to drastically improve health and wellness by reducing waterborne illness.
WATER4SCHOOLS (W4S)
W4S is part of the program that is integrated within the normal school day to teach WASH (water, sanitation, and hygiene) principles. In Tanzania, W4S provides wells, filters, hand washing stations, education, and bathroom facilities to schools. An interactive curriculum engages teachers and students with the goal of long-term behavior change to lower incidence of waterborne illness, improve girls' menstrual hygiene, and connect good hygiene habits with good health.
WELLS & WATER SYSTEMS
Community water systems are designed to meet the unique challenges of the people they serve. In Tanzania, the first step is often drilling a borehole so people have a reliable water source. A water system is built and can include a water tank, pumps, piping, and tap stands. Water access closer to where people live and go to school saves women time from collecting water, and the health and prosperity of the community increases.
VISA & PROGRAM FEE
The program fee covers your Airport pickup, Accommodation and Meals during your stay.
You can easily reserve your spot by paying the deposit to Volunteer World and the remaining amount to our organization.
After we have confirmed your program fee, we will send you the invitation letter and NGO Certificate. These documents will be required when applying for your visa. You will also send us a Copy of your passport and CV.
EXTRA FEES:
Center Contribution
In this placement there is an extra fee of $100 that is given directly to the center to develop their facilities and service provision but if you wish to do more for the center you are welcome!
CERTIFICATE
At the end of your program, you will be awarded a Certificate of Appreciation on the programs you have attended.
Challenges
Culture shock
Inexperienced local communities. Expect going to the outreach to provide a filter if you have bought some to donate.
Firsthand experience on how poverty affects the livelihoods of the people, especially the maasai people.
Expectations. With high expectations, it is easy to be disappointed by the lags and reluctance involved in the processes.
Positives
Gain more experience and friends working with the local people as well as the local professionals.
Participate in making a better life for people who lack the safe water to do so for themselves.
Arusha is a beautiful tourist city with much to appreciate.
The people are welcoming.
The landscape and scenery are magnificent; Take the opportunity to travel and socialize on the weekends. There are many spots for leisure and fun.
What can I bring?
Donating and sharing is appreciated. There are many needs due to the limited resources the centers have as well as the local communities. In regards to the vast needs of the water crisis society, assistance is always appreciated as it improves the living standards of the beneficiaries.
