    The program is located in the vibrant city of Jinja, known for its rich cultural heritage and natural beauty. It lies along the shores of Lake Victoria, offering picturesque views and a laid-back environment. The city itself is a hub of activity, with local markets, vibrant neighborhoods, and nearby natural attractions, including the Source of the Nile.

    Volunteers will live in simple yet comfortable accommodations within the community, typically in shared houses or host families, allowing for a deeper connection to the local culture. The accommodation is modest but provides basic necessities, with access to clean water and electricity. Volunteers will also have time to explore the surrounding areas during their free time, with plenty of opportunities to immerse themselves in Ugandan culture.

    The volunteer works in the women’s community to offer better development and quality of life for them. A community project is carried out with women with craft workshops, hygiene workshops, disease prevention, etc.

    In this program, you will have the opportunity to experience the life of local Ugandans, help the community by lending extra hands and effort, as well as experience cultural immersion and engagement with the local community.

    It develops workshops and activities, as well as projects that promote the autonomy of these women and girls.

    Beyond the support offered, volunteers also enjoy a deep cultural immersion, living alongside locals and gaining meaningful insight into Ugandan traditions and daily life. This program not only contributes to the personal growth of the women involved but also fosters mutual understanding, solidarity, and sustainable community development. Your presence becomes a powerful tool for positive change and empowerment.

    Volunteers are expected to be proactive, empathetic, and committed to making a difference. They should be patient, respectful of cultural differences, and open to learning from the local community. Volunteers are encouraged to bring ideas for new activities or workshops that align with the skills and interests of the women, while also being flexible to adjust plans based on the local needs and context.

    Typical day

    The volunteer’s daily routine consists of collaboration from Monday to Friday, approximately 4 or 5 hours, distributed during the morning or afternoon according to needs.

    The volunteer’s daily routine consists of collaboration from Monday to Friday, approximately 4 or 5 hours, distributed during the morning or afternoon according to needs.

    A typical volunteer day begins with breakfast at the accommodation with all the volunteers. After breakfast, the volunteers head to the project, where they meet with the local coordinator to organize the activities planned for the day.

    Throughout the morning, each volunteer contributes to the assigned tasks. There is a break for lunch and, depending on the needs, the tasks are continued or free time is available.

    The volunteer can visit nearby areas in his or her free time. In the evening, the group has dinner and prepares for the next day.

    Some of the activities you will do during your volunteering are:

    • Reading workshops.
    • Health workshops.
    • Basic education.
    • Entrepreneurship activities.

    Known as the Pearl of Africa, Uganda is one of the most scenic and interesting countries you may get the chance to visit as a volunteer: breathtaking scenery, a very rich and interesting culture, plenty of wildlife and flora, delicious cuisine, everything you might want, Uganda probably has it -and more. 

    Some of the places we would recommend you to visit as a volunteer are: 
    • Kampala: Uganda's mountainous capital. In Kampala you can find bustling markets, historical sights (especially the Kasubi royal tombs, a Unesco heritage site tied to the Buganda kingdom), museums (especially the national museum), cultural areas (don't miss shows shown at the Ndere center!), and also a very diverse nightlife. 
    • Murchinson Falls National Park: Sprawling from the shore of Lake Albert, it's the largest park in Uganda and a place you shouldn't miss: it's a place filled with large African fauna, beautiful scenery, large and strong waterfalls, and excellent safari opportunities.
    • Rwenzori Mountain Ranges: a Unesco heritage site, it's one of Africa's most beautiful alpine areas. It's filled with glaciers, lakes, waterfalls, and flora and fauna you can't find in many other places.
    • Fort Portal: It's been named one of Uganda's "touristic cities"; it's the city you will be staying at and one that has much to see and do: there's the Tooro Botanical Gardens, nearby scenic spots like lake Kyaninga, or historical monuments and places like the new Tooro Kingdom Palace or the Old Tooro Kingdom Palace.

    In order to join the program you need to be at least 18 years old on the program start date. There might be exemptions if you can provide the permission of your legal guardian(s) or if your are accompanied by your parents.

    Airport Pickup at Entebbe International Airport

    Volunteers must arrive in Uganda, is posible pick up from 90$ every day.

    Accommodation

    Volunteers will stay in shared rooms (about 4 volunteers per room) in a guesthouse. 
    All beds have mosquito nets and the house keeper will change bed linen weekly.

    The house also has wifi, electricity, drinking water (although we recommend volunteers to buy bottled water) and common areas available for volunteers such as a kitchen, bathrooms and a living room. (bathroom is turkish)

    Food & Beverages

    Daily meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner) will be provided at the volunteer's home. Volunteers who require a different food requirement (vegetarian, intolerant to a particular food) should indicate this in advance.

    The nearest airport is Entebbe International Airport (EBB) in Entebbe. We assist you to find cheap flights to Uganda. FIND CHEAP FLIGHTS

    Travel Insurance

    Details on arrival

    Open all year round. It is recommended to arrive on a weekend, starting on Monday.

    You will arrive at Entebbe airport where you will be picked up at a cost of around €80.

    This schedule may change and/or be modified depending on weather conditions, local conditions and unforeseen circumstances.
