The ICT Lessons for Students program was created to help bridge this digital divide by equipping young learners especially girls with practical computer skills, digital confidence, and exposure to technology that can shape their future opportunities.
As a volunteer, you will support local schools, communities and students by delivering structured ICT lessons and sharing practical digital knowledge in a supportive learning environment.
This is a meaningful skills-based volunteering experience designed for individuals who want to create real impact while applying their professional or academic knowledge.
Your Role as a Volunteer
Volunteers support ICT learning through guided, structured activities. Depending on your skills and confidence level, you may:
* Teach basic computer skills (typing, MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
* Introduce internet use, online safety, and digital literacy
* Support beginner coding lessons or technology activities
* Assist local teachers during ICT classes
* Help students build confidence using computers
* Create simple learning materials or practical exercises
* Encourage problem-solving and critical thinking through technology
No advanced teaching experience is required, but motivation, patience, and willingness to engage students are essential.

Program Availability & Start Dates
Our program is available year-round.
We welcome volunteers throughout the entire year, and there are no fixed seasonal start dates. Volunteers may apply and begin their placement at any time of the month, subject to confirmation and availability.
To ensure smooth coordination, we recommend confirming your arrival date at least two weeks in advance.
For orientation purposes, we strongly recommend arriving on a weekend (Saturday or Sunday), so that placement activities can begin on the following Monday.
This flexible structure allows volunteers to plan their travel according to their personal schedules while ensuring proper preparation and support upon arrival.
How do I get to my placement location
On the first day of placement, a member of the SFLIG Volunteers team will accompany you to the school to ensure a smooth and confident start.
Our staff will clearly explain:
* The route to take.
* The appropriate transportation option.
* Estimated travel time.
* The typical transportation cost.
If needed, this guidance can be repeated during the first few days until you feel fully comfortable traveling independently.
We also provide guidance on returning safely to your accommodation after each school day.
Our goal is to ensure that every volunteer feels confident, secure, and well-oriented in the local transportation system.
