The Nuevos Horizontes ("new horizons") program is a transformative volunteer initiative aimed at supporting prisoners in a Colombian facility who are undergoing detoxification and reintegration while facing addiction challenges. Volunteers will engage with the prisoners through English language lessons and participate in shared activities such as dance or sports, fostering personal growth, connection, and recovery. This program offers a unique opportunity to make a lasting impact by aiding in the rehabilitation process and helping individuals build skills for a successful return to society.
As a volunteer, you will life in a hostel in Bucaramanga, where you can connect with people from all the world. During the week, we will schedule your sessions in the modelo prison. You could do the following activities in the prison:
- Give English classes
- Support with Music / Dance activities
- Give Sport Sessions
- Any talent is welcome.
It's important to know that it's a prison, so there are many regulations and restrictions. It may occur, that activities will be cancelled on short notice or have to be moved to other days. However, we try to enable your program as active and interesting as possible.
Normally, you will spend 1 day per week in the prison and the other days with partner foundations, where you can support community project.
Your free days can be enriched with Spanish classes and with many nice activities in the beautiful nature around Bucaramanga.
