    Trinity Daycare is a childcare center for babies and toddlers aged 6 months to 3 years, offering a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment for early childhood development.

    The daycare was established to support families facing economic and social challenges, especially single parents who need reliable childcare in order to work, study, or manage daily responsibilities. We provide a secure and caring space where children are supported throughout the day through play, love, and emotional development rather than academic pressure.

    The center accommodates up to 60 children and is run by a dedicated local team including trained caregivers, assistants, and a cook. Each child receives individual attention in a warm and family-like environment.

    Volunteer Tasks & Responsibilities

    International volunteers are an important part of daily life at Trinity Daycare. Their role is to assist caregivers and create a positive, engaging atmosphere for the children.

    Morning Arrival 08:30 
    Volunteers arrive at 08:30 AM and begin the day by greeting staff and preparing for the children’s arrival. As children come in, volunteers assist with welcoming them, settling them into the environment, supporting hygiene routines such as handwashing, diaper changing, and helping with morning feeding. Free play is encouraged to help children feel comfortable and engaged.

    Mid-Morning Activities 10:30
    This period is dedicated to structured play-based learning. Volunteers support activities such as storytelling, singing, music, sensory play, and simple creative crafts. The focus is on developing children’s language, motor skills, creativity, and social interaction in a fun and pressure-free way.

    Lunch & Rest Time 12:00 – 20
    Children are supported during lunch with feeding assistance and hygiene care. After lunch, younger children take naps while others rest quietly. Volunteers may assist caregivers with cleaning, preparing materials, or organizing the learning space for afternoon activities.

    Afternoon Activities 14:30 – 15:30
    In the afternoon, children participate in calm and engaging activities such as drawing, puzzles, group games, and indoor or outdoor play (depending on weather). Volunteers help guide activities that promote emotional expression, sharing, and physical development.

    Evening Routine 16:30 – 17:00
    As the day ends, volunteers help prepare children for pick-up, assist with cleaning the daycare environment, and organize toys and materials. This time may also include short reflections with staff, sharing observations about children’s progress and daily experiences.

    During your free time, you will have the opportunity to explore the vibrant life of Arusha and its surrounding areas. After your daily activities at the daycare, you can relax at the volunteer house, connect with other volunteers, or take a walk around the local community.

    During your free time, you will have the opportunity to explore the vibrant life of Arusha and its surrounding areas. After your daily activities at the daycare, you can relax at the volunteer house, connect with other volunteers, or take a walk around the local community.

    You can visit local markets, experience Tanzanian culture, try traditional food, and interact with local people. There are also opportunities to learn basic Swahili, join cultural activities, or simply enjoy the peaceful environment.

    On weekends, volunteers often explore some of Tanzania’s most famous attractions. You can go on safari in nearby national parks, visit waterfalls, enjoy coffee tours, or take day trips around Arusha.

    For those who enjoy adventure, activities such as hiking and cultural tours are available. If you prefer a more relaxed experience, you can spend your time reading, resting, or socializing with other volunteers.

    Your free time is a perfect chance to explore, learn, and create unforgettable memories while experiencing real life in Arusha.

    Airport Pickup at Kilimanjaro International Airport

    We provide airport pickup services, which are included in the volunteer program fees.

    Upon arrival at the airport in Tanzania, a member of the Gilys Children’s Foundation team will be waiting to welcome you and assist with your transfer to Arusha. You will be safely transported to your accommodation, where you will have time to rest and settle in after your journey.
    Our team ensures a smooth and stress-free arrival experience, and we are available to support you with any travel-related questions before and after your arrival.

    Accommodation


    Volunteers will stay in a welcoming and secure volunteer house located in Arusha, within a reasonable distance from Trinity Daycare and other essential services such as shops, transport, and local markets.

    The accommodation provides a comfortable and homely environment where volunteers from different backgrounds live together, share experiences, and enjoy cultural exchange. Rooms are shared, clean, and equipped with basic furniture and space for personal belongings.

    Facilities include shared bathrooms with running water, a common dining and lounge area, and space for relaxation. Volunteers also have access to a kitchen area and enjoy daily meals prepared at the house.

    To reach Trinity Daycare, volunteers will use local transport (dala-dala). The journey involves taking one dala-dala from the volunteer house area directly to Usarive Leganga, followed by a short walk to the daycare. Our team will fully guide volunteers on how to use the local transport system safely and confidently during orientation.

    The environment at the volunteer house is friendly and social, allowing volunteers to connect, share ideas, and support each other throughout their stay. After daily activities, the house provides a peaceful place to rest and recharge.

    Our team ensures that the accommodation remains safe, clean, and well-managed, and support is always available whenever needed.

    Food & Beverages

    During your stay with Gilys Children’s Foundation at Trinity Daycare in Arusha, volunteers are provided with fresh, simple, and locally prepared meals throughout the day. Food is mainly based on Tanzanian home-style cooking, using seasonal and locally available ingredients.
    Volunteers typically receive three meals per day: breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Breakfast is usually light and may include tea, coffee, bread, fruits, porridge, or chapati. Lunch is the main meal of the day and often consists of staples such as rice, ugali, beans, vegetables, and sometimes chicken or fish. Dinner is generally lighter but still nutritious and satisfying.
    Clean drinking water is always available. Occasionally, fresh fruit juices may also be provided depending on availability.
    We can also try to accommodate basic dietary requirements such as vegetarian preferences, provided we are informed in advance.
    Overall, food is simple, fresh, and shared in a friendly community atmosphere, giving volunteers a real taste of Tanzanian culture and daily life.

    Details on arrival

    Volunteers can join the Trinity Daycare program throughout the year, as we accept applications on a flexible rolling basis. There are no fixed start dates, which allows volunteers to choose arrival times that best fit their travel plans.

    We recommend arriving on weekdays so that your first orientation day can take place during active daycare operations.

    Arrival in Arusha
    Upon arrival in Arusha, Tanzania, volunteers are welcomed by a member of the Gilys Children’s Foundation team. Airport or bus station pickup can be arranged in advance depending on your travel route.
    Volunteers are then transferred to their accommodation and given time to rest and settle in after the journey.

    Orientation & Introduction
    On your first working days, you will receive a full introduction to the program, including:

    &Introduction to staff, children, and daily routines
    _Safety guidelines and childcare procedures
    _Cultural orientation and local community information
    _Explanation of volunteer roles and responsibilities
    This ensures you feel confident, prepared, and well-integrated into the environment.

    First Day at the Daycare
    Your first official day at the daycare is focused on observation and gentle participation. You will:
    _Shadow experienced caregivers
    _Learn daily routines step by step
    _Begin interacting with children through supervised play
    _Gradually take on small responsibilities based on your comfort level

    Important Notes on Arrival
    Volunteers are expected to arrive a day before or at least one day before starting work to allow for proper orientation
    Comfortable, child-friendly clothing is recommended from day one
    Patience and flexibility are important as you adjust to a new cultural and working environment.
