    About the program

This childcare and early childhood education program is based in a local community in Tanzania, where volunteers will work at a daycare and preschool center operated by Gilys Children Foundation. Volunteers will live at Rafiki Culture Hostel, located near the project, providing a comfortable and safe environment with access to local amenities and a true cultural experience.

Volunteers will work closely with young children aged 1 to 6 years, alongside local teachers and caregivers. The main role of volunteers is to support daily childcare activities, assist with early learning, organize games and creative activities, and help create a loving and safe environment for the children.

We expect volunteers to be caring, patient, flexible, and motivated to work with children from different backgrounds. No professional experience is required, but a positive attitude and willingness to learn are very important.

In return, volunteers will receive accommodation, meals, and full support from our local team. Volunteers will also have the opportunity to experience Tanzanian culture, interact with the local community, and develop skills in childcare, teamwork, and communication.

Volunteers are encouraged to bring a laptop that can be used to support teachers and caregivers with basic digital tasks, learning materials, and administrative support. They may also bring simple teaching materials, games, or clothes for children if they wish, but this is not mandatory.

    Free-time activities

Volunteers will have plenty of opportunities to enjoy their free time while staying in Arusha and its surroundings. The region offers a wide range of exciting experiences including guided tours, nature adventures, and cultural encounters.

Many volunteers choose to explore Tanzania’s famous attractions such as safari parks, hiking trails, and mountain experiences. It is also possible to visit local communities, discover traditional lifestyles, and learn more about Maasai culture through organized visits.

In Arusha city, volunteers can enjoy everyday local life by visiting markets, trying different foods in local restaurants, and interacting with the community. The city also has various leisure spots where volunteers can relax during weekends.

For those interested in nature and adventure, there are options such as visiting waterfalls, hot springs, crater lakes, and wildlife-related attractions. These activities make the experience in Arusha both educational and enjoyable outside of volunteering hours.
