    About the program

The Childcare & Community Support Program with TANF Ghana offers volunteers the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of vulnerable children while experiencing the warmth and culture of Ghanaian communities. This program is designed for individuals who are passionate about supporting children’s development, education, and well-being through hands-on involvement in local schools and community initiatives.

As a volunteer, you will work closely with children in a supportive and welcoming environment, helping to create safe, engaging, and inspiring spaces where young learners can grow. Volunteers assist with daily childcare activities, educational support, mentorship, and community-based development programs that strengthen families and promote youth empowerment.

In addition to working directly with children, volunteers also contribute to broader community support efforts, such as organizing recreational activities, supporting outreach initiatives, and encouraging positive social development.

TANF Ghana provides orientation, local guidance, and continuous support throughout the placement. Volunteers do not need to bring special equipment, but we recommend bringing comfortable clothing, suitable shoes, personal toiletries, and any optional learning or play materials for children.

Whether you are a student, a gap-year traveler, or someone looking to give back, this program provides a unique opportunity to build connections, develop new skills, and become part of TANF Ghana’s mission of improving education and healthcare outcomes for underprivileged children.

A typical day as a volunteer in the Childcare & Community Support Program begins with breakfast and a short briefing with the TANF Ghana team. Volunteers then travel to a local partner school or community center where they assist with childcare and educational activities.

During the morning, volunteers help teachers and caregivers by supporting classroom learning, organizing creative lessons, reading with children, and providing one-on-one attention to those who need extra support. Volunteers also engage children through games, songs, and interactive activities that encourage learning and confidence.

In the afternoon, volunteers may participate in community-based youth development projects, mentorship sessions, or recreational programs that promote child well-being and social development. There is also time to connect with local families and experience daily life in the community.

Evenings are usually free for volunteers to relax, reflect, and enjoy cultural exchange with fellow volunteers and host community members. Weekends can be used for optional excursions and exploring Ghana’s beautiful culture and attractions.
