    About the program

Volunteer in Thailand with IVHQ, the world’s leading volunteer travel organization trusted by more than 155000 volunteers since 2007.

Make a meaningful difference supporting early childhood education in the lively and culturally rich city of Chiang Mai. Located in northern Thailand, this welcoming region is known for its friendly communities, colorful traditions, and beautiful mountain scenery, creating an inspiring place to volunteer and contribute to the wellbeing of local children.

You will directly support the growth and development of young learners by assisting teachers, guiding activities, and providing extra care that helps children feel supported and engaged. This fully hosted experience allows you to contribute to community development while immersing yourself in one of Thailand’s most treasured cultural destinations.

Your Role and Impact: The primary goal of this project is to strengthen early learning for children from low income families. Many childcare centers face limited staffing and modest resources, so volunteers play a key role in helping teachers manage classrooms, run activities, and create environments that nurture confidence, creativity, and social development.

As a Childcare volunteer in Chiang Mai, your duties will be practical and hands on:

    • Classroom Support: Assisting teachers with basic lessons, English practice, songs, and simple learning exercises that introduce new concepts.
    • Child Supervision: Supporting children during playtime, meals, and daily routines to help maintain a safe, caring, and structured environment.
    • Creative Engagement: Leading games, crafts, music, and interactive storytelling that encourage curiosity and build early developmental skills.
    • Center Maintenance: Organizing supplies, tidying classrooms, and helping maintain colorful, welcoming learning spaces.

Volunteers collaborate closely with local teachers, childcare staff, and fellow international volunteers who share a passion for early education. Local staff provide guidance on classroom routines and cultural expectations, while volunteers bring energy, creativity, and one on one attention that enriches each child’s learning experience.

No special equipment is required for this project. All materials needed for lessons and activities are provided on site. Volunteers only need comfortable clothing suitable for working with young children and any personal stationery items they prefer to use.

No prior childcare experience is necessary. Patience, enthusiasm, and a genuine interest in supporting young children make this program especially fulfilling for volunteers.

Program Details and Accommodation: This program includes a fully hosted volunteer experience with accommodation in a volunteer house and three meals provided each day. Transport to and from your placement is included. Volunteers gain valuable hands on childcare experience, connect with others from around the world, and spend weekends exploring Chiang Mai’s temples, night markets, and scenic mountain landscapes. The program runs year round and offers a well supported, culturally rich opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to early childhood education in northern Thailand.
