Make a meaningful difference supporting early childhood education in the vibrant city of Lima. You will help support young children by assisting teachers, supervising activities, and providing extra care and encouragement in local childcare centers. This fully hosted experience allows you to contribute to community wellbeing while gaining valuable experience working with children in an international setting.
Your Role and Impact: The primary goal of this project is to strengthen early learning and daily care for children from low income families. Many childcare centers in Lima face limited staffing and resources, making volunteer support especially valuable. By helping teachers manage classrooms and engage children in positive activities, volunteers contribute to safer, more nurturing learning environments during a critical stage of child development.
As a Childcare volunteer in Lima, your duties will be hands on, supportive, and rewarding:
- Classroom Support: Assisting local teachers with basic lessons, educational games, and simple learning activities.
- Child Supervision: Helping care for children during playtime, meals, and daily routines to ensure they feel safe and supported.
- Creative Activities: Leading arts and crafts, storytelling, music, and interactive games that encourage creativity and social development.
- Center Assistance: Helping tidy classrooms, organize supplies, and maintain a welcoming environment for children and staff.
Volunteers work closely with local teachers, childcare staff, and fellow international volunteers. Local educators provide guidance on routines, classroom expectations, and cultural context, while volunteers bring additional energy, creativity, and individual attention that enriches each child’s experience.
No special equipment is required for this program. All materials needed for classroom activities are provided by the childcare centers. Volunteers may bring small personal stationery items if they wish, but this is optional. Comfortable clothing suitable for working with young children is recommended.
No previous childcare experience is required. Patience, enthusiasm, and a genuine interest in supporting young children are the most important qualities for volunteers on this project.
Program Details and Accommodation: This fully hosted volunteer experience includes accommodation in a volunteer house in Lima with meals provided each day. Transport to and from your childcare placement is arranged locally. Volunteers gain hands on experience in early childhood education, connect with other volunteers from around the world, and spend weekends exploring Lima’s historic neighborhoods, coastal areas, markets, and cultural attractions. Available year round, this program offers a meaningful and well supported opportunity to contribute to early childhood development in Peru’s capital city.
