    About the program

    We bring quality activities to children and teach them how to read and write, we help them to improve their skills and we share essential knoledge for their future.

    Introduction to the program: 
    Oaxaca is the second state in Mexico with educational backwardness, that represents that 8 of every 10 kids don´t have access to basic education and we have and 80% illiteracy in the state, becoming a social problematic for our country. 
    Unfortunately witth the years the statistic gets bigger, that is why we decide to focus our resources on the children education.
    This program is important because we help children from the poor communities to have quality education.
    Our main goal is to break patterns of illiteracy, home abandonment, lack of sexual education, early pregnancies, excessive consumption of alcohol, drugs and all the risks that lack of education entails in a community.

    What is this program exactly about?
    The program is about going to the communities around Puerto Escondido and teach to the kids from our programs some skills like english, sports, culture, etc.
    Our project is in charge of sharing fundamental knowledge for children's lives, helping them strengthen their weaknesses and developing their abilities.

     What is the role of the volunteer?
    The role of the volunteer is help the children to take their skills out and support them to strengthen their weaknesses

    Surroundings and the locations where the volunteers will be working and living at
    The schools where we work are located on the outskirts of the town, 10 minutes distance walking from our residence.
    We work with a "social school" and we help the teachers.

    What do you expect from the volunteers?
    Volunteers must be very creatives and leaders to design diferent activities for the children.

    Support on the whole volunteer program processs, training, advices and information about Puerto Escondido.

    Community Education Assistant is a beautiful program where we bring quality educational activities to children 

    We also share artistic, sports and cultural activities; and we take the children out to different places that they usually don't know about.

    MORNING

    1. Wake up at 7am and get ready.
    2. Breakfast is from 8.00 to 8.40 am
    3. Walk to the social school. 
    4. Start the class at 9;40 am
    5. Finish the class at 12:30 pm

    AFTERNOON

    6. Class planning The class is divided in 2 moments:

                    Theoric part: Conversation, storytelling, ...

                    Theoric part: Conversation, storytelling, cultural or academic activities (You´ll be supported by the coordinator)
                    Physycal part: Sports, Artistic, Fundays.

    7. Make sure all the material needed is ready for the next day. 


    Free-time activities

    Volunteers can use their time as they wish. 
    Puerto Escondido offers a great variety of options for recreation: 
    - Zicatela Beach is one of the most popular spots for profesionall surfing and a beautiful place to watch the Sunset. 

    - Carrizalillo beach is the favorite place for basic surfing and ...

    Free-time activities

    Volunteers can use their time as they wish. 
    Puerto Escondido offers a great variety of options for recreation: 
    - Zicatela Beach is one of the most popular spots for profesionall surfing and a beautiful place to watch the Sunset. 

    - Carrizalillo beach is the favorite place for basic surfing and swim in the ocean. 
    - Manzanillo beach has a nice and small reef to watch some fishes. 
    - Dolphin and turtle watching tours are available. 
    - Horseback riding tour is available. 
    - Bioluminiscence tour is available only in new moon phase. 
    - Waterfalls tour is available. 
    - Yoga class is available.

    Minimum Age: 18 years

    In order to join the program you need to be at least 18 years old on the program start date. There might be exemptions if you can provide the permission of your legal guardian(s) or if your are accompanied by your parents.

    Language Skills

    You need to speak English (intermediate level) or Spanish (intermediate level)

    Education, Social Work, Childhood, etc. at University level

    We have internet available at World Changers House, however the internet in Puerto Escondido is unstable.

    Travel Insurance

    The last 2 weeks of DECEMBER
    Besides that we run the program monday to friday, 4 hours a day and once a month we take the children out, that normally takes more than 6 hours.
