    Join the Community Support Program in Athens, Greece! In a city as vibrant and diverse as Athens, the fusion of various cultures illustrates the profound impact a community can have. Athens has welcomed marginalized groups—including people with disabilities, migrants, refugees, and those advocating for gender equality and diversity—offering them a fresh start and a path to inclusion in local society.

    This program is dedicated to supporting marginalized individuals seeking to rebuild their lives, with a focus on integration and empowerment. Central to the efforts of the Community Support project is a wide range of services tailored to diverse needs, from organizing donations and conducting educational workshops to imparting essential skills and running awareness campaigns. The goal is to aid the integration of these communities and help them find solace and dignity in Athens.

    As a volunteer, you’ll engage with individuals from various nationalities, cultures, and social backgrounds—each overcoming significant challenges to rebuild their lives in local society. Your contributions will be pivotal in fostering inclusion and supporting those in need.

    What to Expect:

    • Meal Preparation and Distribution: Prepare and distribute meals and immediate need supplies to refugees, asylum seekers, and other marginalized communities.

    • Facilitating Events: Assist in organizing and facilitating community events that promote social inclusion and awareness.

    • Garden Care: Help maintain community gardens, providing a peaceful and productive space for beneficiaries.

    • Reception and Support: Welcome and assist students and beneficiaries at the community center, ensuring they feel supported and valued.

    • Cleaning Tasks: Participate in maintaining the cleanliness and hygiene of the community center.

    • Student and Beneficiary Engagement: Keep in touch with students and beneficiaries, providing ongoing support and encouragement.

    • Content Creation: Create content such as videos and photos of events for promotion on social media, helping to raise awareness and support for the cause.

    Daily Tasks:

    • Organize and Facilitate Events: Plan and execute events that promote inclusion, diversity, and community engagement.

    • Reception Duties: Welcome and assist individuals at the center, providing a friendly and supportive atmosphere.

    • Maintain Cleanliness: Contribute to the upkeep and cleanliness of the community spaces.

    • Engage with Beneficiaries: Maintain regular contact with students and beneficiaries, offering support and building relationships.

    After the initial orientation, you will join the morning or afternoon shift at your placement and will work for approximately 3 to 5 hours per day. Please note that the starting times and daily workload can vary depending on the schedule of each specific project.

    Typical day

    After the initial orientation, you will join the morning or afternoon shift at your placement and will work for approximately 3 to 5 hours per day. Please note that the starting times and daily workload can vary depending on the schedule of each specific project. 

    You will be going to your project by public transportation :) One way ticket costs 1,20 euros and the commute time varies from 15 to 25 minutes.

    A typical daily schedule will look as follows:

     

    07:30 am – 11:30 am | Breakfast at the volunteer’s accommodation

    10:00 am – 13:30 pm | (1)Travel to project to join local placement staff and begin work on your volunteer project or (2) Explore the city, relax, or enroll in other activities if you have an afternoon project

    13:30 pm | Enjoy your lunch at the accommodation

    02:30 pm – 07:30 pm | (1) Travel to project to join local placement staff and begin work on your volunteer project, or (2) Explore the city, relax, or enroll in other activities if you have a morning project

    19:30 pm – 10:00 pm | Dinner at the accommodation. After dinner, you will have the remainder of the evening free to relax and use as you wish.

    Athens is the historical capital of Europe, the birthplace of democracy, arts, science, and philosophy of western civilisation, and Home to Plato, Socrates, Pericles, Euripides, Sophocles, and Aeschylus.  Athens is one of the world’s oldest cities, but today, under the shadow of the Parthenon, the contemporary urban scenery of the sprawling city reflects its exciting history, its multicultural modern personality, as well as its infrastructure and facilities.

    The perfect Mediterranean climate with the legendary Greek sunlight, the unique combination of glorious history with modern, urban innovation, and the coexistence of great culture with astonishing natural beauty.

    You will have so much to discover during your program… Enjoy your free mornings or afternoons as well as the weekends to explore all the city has to offer!

    Minimum Age: 18 years

    In order to join the program you need to be at least 18 years old on the program start date. There might be exemptions if you can provide the permission of your legal guardian(s) or if your are accompanied by your parents.

    Your helping hand will be required on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 10:00 - 18:00

    Airport Pickup at Eleftherios Venizelos International Airport

    On Sunday, the ImpacTrip team will be at the airport waiting for you with a big sign and a smile on their face! :)

    If you arrive prior to Sunday, you will still be able to receive an airport pickup, and our team can transport you to the accommodation, but you will need to pay an extra fee for this service.

    Accommodation

    Volunteers stay accommodated in a modern and vibrant hostel located in central Athens, just under 2 km from Larissis Metro and Train Station, with easy access to various parts of the city. The area is lively and well-connected, offering nearby restaurants, bars, public transport, and cultural attractions such as the National Theater and the National Archaeological Museum, which are just a short ride away. The international airport is approximately 32 km away and reachable by public transport.

    The accommodation offers a mix of dormitory-style rooms (with air conditioning and shared bathrooms), as well as private rooms that can be requested as an upgrade. All rooms are equipped with a wardrobe and a desk, providing comfort for both rest and relaxation.

    The hostel features a shared lounge, communal kitchen, sun terrace, and several social areas, including a bar and restaurant. For those looking to unwind or socialize, there’s also karaoke, table tennis, darts, and even options for bike and car rental.

    Breakfast is provided daily and can be enjoyed buffet-style, à la carte, or in a vegetarian version. The menu typically includes local and seasonal ingredients, with options to suit different dietary needs upon request.

    The staff, available 24/7, speak Greek, English, and Spanish, and are always ready to assist volunteers with anything they need during their stay.

    Food & Beverages

    We will provide breakfast, lunch, and dinner at the hostel every day. The hostel restaurant offers meals with fresh local ingredients for all volunteers in a very Greek style, and they are prepared to accommodate most dietary restrictions, such as vegan and vegetarians, gluten-free, and lactose intolerant.
