    Barcelona law protects every abandoned animal, making local shelters crucial in managing colonies of stray cats, protecting shelter animals, and promoting adoptions. These shelters are often crowded due to the high number of animals needing care, making volunteer work essential to their mission.


    The Animal Care project offers volunteers the chance to support the welfare of abandoned cats in local shelters. The primary goals of these nonprofit organizations are to protect the cats, raise awareness about animal abandonment, and facilitate adoptions into loving homes.

    What to Expect:

    • Animal Welfare: Support the care and well-being of abandoned cats.

    • Shelter Support: Help maintain a clean and safe environment for the animals.

    • Community Engagement: Participate in events to promote animal adoption and raise awareness.

    Daily Tasks:

    • Cleaning: Maintain clean living spaces for the cats.

    • Feeding: Assist with feeding the cats.

    • Companionship: Provide companionship by playing and socializing with the cats.

    • Facility Maintenance: Help maintain outdoor spaces.

    • Awareness Campaigns: Support campaigns to raise awareness about animal abandonment.

    • Promotion: Help with social media and photography to promote the cause.

    Typical day

    After the initial orientation day, you will have a morning, afternoon, or evening shift at your placement and will work for approximately 3 to 5 hours per day. Please note that start times and daily workload depend on the project that you are participating in.

    After the initial orientation day, you will have a morning, afternoon, or evening shift at your placement and will work for approximately 3 to 5 hours per day. Please note that start times and daily workload depend on the project that you are participating in. 

    A typical schedule is as follows:
    • 7 – 10 am | Breakfast at the volunteer accommodation 
    • 10 am | Travel to the project to join local placement staff and begin work on your project, or explore the city, relax, attend Spanish language lessons, or enroll in other activities if you have a morning project
    • 13.30 pm | For lunch, you have the freedom to explore Spain's local cuisine.
    • 2 – 7 pm | Travel to the  project to join local placement staff and begin work on your project, or explore the city, relax, attend Spanish language lessons, or enroll in other activities if you have a morning project
    • 8 – 10 pm | Dinner is served at the accommodation.
    Note: Monday’s welcome session and city tour online happen in the first week. The following weeks are regular days of volunteering.

    Every month, there's a different celebration or main event in the city. If you happen to be around, check the festivities calendar for that month! Most likely, there will be vibrant happenings.

    Minimum Age: 18 years

    In order to join the program you need to be at least 18 years old on the program start date. There might be exemptions if you can provide the permission of your legal guardian(s) or if your are accompanied by your parents.

    No restrictions. Helping hands from all over the world are welcome.

    Time Commitment

    Your helping hand will be required on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 10:00 - 18:00

    What’s included?

    - Pick up at the international airport in Barcelona (when arrival is on the weekend) & public transportation transfer to the accommodation - Sunday 

    On Sunday, the ImpacTrip team will be at the airport waiting for you with a big sign and a smile on their face! :)

    If you arrive prior to Sunday, you will still be able to receive an airport pickup and our team can transport you to the accommodation, but you will need to pay an extra fee for this service.

    - Accommodation at a dormitory at a social hostel, female dormitory or mixed dormitory with a private bathroom; bed sheets are provided

    - Two meals a day everyday: Breakfast and dinner (Local style. Vegetarian, gluten-free, and meals for lactose-intolerant are also available upon request)

    - Shared use of the common room, outdoor area, and free WIFI

    - Orientation event on arrival (including an introduction to Spain and Spanish culture, volunteer experience, an overview of programs, practical information, and safety guidelines)

    Airport Pickup at Barcelona-El Prat Airport

    On Sunday, the ImpacTrip team will be at the airport waiting for you with a big sign and a smile on their face! :)

    If you arrive prior to Sunday, you will still be able to receive an airport pickup and our team can transport you to the accommodation, but you will need to pay an extra fee for this service.

    We will reach out to you by WhatsApp a few days before your start date to connect.

    Accommodation

    You will stay accommodated in a social hostel with a meaningful social mission in Barcelona city.  The Hostel has the capacity to accommodate up to 320 conscious travelers who want to visit Barcelona in a responsible way.  

    There are various common areas such as dining room, living room, room balconies and outside areas.  

    The hostel is in a neighborhood where you can find everything you need: a mall, local coffee shops, supermarkets, ATMs, hospital, police and most utilities you will need just around the corner. The Hostel is 10 minutes walking from the metro stop and has many buses and a tranvia running by that can bring you to the city center in 1 hour.

    But what is really unique about it is its social concept. The hostel is actually a social business for a non-profit ran in the same building. The non-profit develops a wide range of programs, campaigns and activities for children and youth, their families and third sector organizations.

    Food & Beverages

    We will provide breakfast and dinner at the hostel everyday. The hostel restaurant offers meals with fresh local ingredients everyday for all volunteers in a very Spanish style and they are prepared to accommodate most diet restrictions such as vegan and vegetarians, gluten-free and lactose intolerant.
