    About the program

    About the Program

As a volunteer with Gilys Children Foundation in our Community Vocational Training Center & Sports Development Program, you will have the rewarding opportunity to support youth and vulnerable community members through both practical vocational education and sports-based youth empowerment activities. The program focuses on building confidence, discipline, teamwork, and future employment opportunities through hands-on learning and active engagement.

Volunteers will work alongside local instructors and community members in different vocational departments, including ICT and Computer Training, Tailoring and Sewing, Domestic Electrical Installation, Cooking and Catering, and Hairdressing & Beauty Skills. In addition, volunteers will support sports activities that help young people stay active, healthy, and motivated.

In the ICT department, volunteers may support students with computer basics, typing skills, internet use, Microsoft Office programs, and digital literacy. In tailoring and sewing classes, volunteers assist with sewing techniques, fabric cutting, clothing design, and machine operation. In domestic electrical installation, students learn basic wiring, safety practices, and home electrical repairs.

Within cooking and catering, volunteers participate in practical sessions covering food preparation, hygiene, nutrition, baking, and culinary skills. In hairdressing and beauty, students gain skills in hairstyling, braiding, hair treatment, and salon management.

In the sports component, volunteers help organize and facilitate football, netball, athletics, and other recreational activities that promote teamwork, discipline, and physical fitness. These sports sessions also encourage talent development, social inclusion, and positive youth engagement within the community.

In addition to vocational and sports activities, volunteers are encouraged to facilitate life skills sessions covering communication, self-confidence, teamwork, problem-solving, leadership, entrepreneurship, stress management, and career development. Volunteers may also design creative workshops together with local staff based on community needs.

Throughout the program, you will strengthen your teaching, leadership, teamwork, and coaching skills while gaining meaningful international experience. Working closely with local trainers, students, and families provides a rich cultural exchange and deeper understanding of Tanzanian community life.

By joining this program, you will contribute to improving opportunities for young people by equipping them with both vocational and sports skills that support their personal growth, future careers, and overall wellbeing.
