    About the program

The Voluntourism & Group Community Impact Program with TANF Ghana offers a unique opportunity to combine meaningful community service with unforgettable travel experiences in Ghana.

This program is designed for short-term volunteers, student groups, travelers, and organizations seeking both cultural immersion and hands-on impact. Volunteers support TANF Ghana’s education, childcare, healthcare, and community development initiatives in Aburi–Oboadaka in Ghana’s Eastern Region, working closely with local children, youth, and families.

Volunteers may assist with classroom support, organize educational games and creative learning activities, support childcare and mentorship programs, participate in community outreach initiatives, contribute to health awareness programs, or assist with light improvement projects depending on community needs. All activities are supervised and adapted to ensure they are safe, meaningful, and culturally respectful.

We expect volunteers to be respectful of local culture, open-minded, flexible, and willing to work as part of a team. A positive attitude and genuine interest in community engagement are essential. No specific professional qualifications are required, but enthusiasm and willingness to contribute are important.

TANF Ghana provides pre-arrival guidance, orientation upon arrival, daily coordination, and local supervision throughout the stay. Volunteers can expect structured placements, strong local support, safe and modest accommodation within or near the host community, and organized cultural experiences or optional weekend tours.

Volunteers do not need to bring special equipment. However, we recommend bringing comfortable clothing suitable for warm weather, closed shoes or sandals, personal toiletries, and any optional educational materials or small activity supplies you may wish to share.

Alongside volunteering during the week, participants enjoy guided cultural experiences and optional weekend tours, exploring Ghana’s natural beauty, historic sites, and vibrant local markets. This program offers the perfect balance between giving back and discovering Ghana in a responsible, inspiring, and structured way.

A typical day begins with breakfast and a short team briefing to review the day’s activities. Volunteers then head to the project site, where they may assist in classroom support, organize educational games, mentor children, support community outreach activities, or participate in light improvement projects depending on the group’s focus.

Work usually takes place in the morning and early afternoon, with regular breaks and close coordination with local staff. Volunteers work alongside teachers, community leaders, and TANF Ghana coordinators to ensure activities are meaningful and culturally appropriate.

Afternoons may include reflection sessions, cultural interaction with community members, or preparation for the next day’s activities. Evenings are free for relaxation, group discussions, or enjoying the peaceful surroundings of Aburi–Oboadaka.

On selected days or weekends, volunteers can participate in guided cultural experiences or optional tours to explore nearby waterfalls, markets, and historical sites.
