    About the program

Volunteer in Thailand with IVHQ, the world’s leading volunteer travel organization trusted by more than 155000 volunteers since 2007.

Make a meaningful impact by supporting community construction and renovation projects in the vibrant city of Chiang Mai. Located in northern Thailand, this scenic region blends cultural heritage with lush mountain landscapes, creating an inspiring setting for volunteers who enjoy hands on, practical work that directly benefits local communities.

You will help improve essential community spaces by assisting with construction, painting, and light renovation tasks. This fully hosted experience allows you to contribute to long term development efforts while enjoying an immersive stay in one of Thailand’s most welcoming and culturally rich destinations.

Your Role and Impact: The primary goal of this project is to upgrade and maintain facilities used by local communities, schools, and childcare centers. Many of these spaces are heavily used and require ongoing improvements, and volunteers offer valuable extra support that helps create safer, brighter, and more functional environments for the people who rely on them.

As a Construction and Renovation volunteer in Chiang Mai, your tasks will be practical and physically engaging:

    • Building Support: Assisting with basic construction tasks like mixing cement, laying bricks, and helping with small structural repairs.
    • Renovation Work: Painting walls, refreshing classrooms, repairing furniture, and improving facilities that have worn down over time.
    • Creative Projects: Designing murals, decorating learning areas, or adding colorful artwork that enhances community and school spaces.
    • Site Maintenance: Cleaning work areas, preparing materials, organizing tools, and supporting day to day project operations.

Volunteers work closely with local project coordinators and construction leaders who provide clear guidance, task instruction, and safety oversight. You will also collaborate with other international volunteers, creating a supportive team environment where tasks are shared and progress is made collectively.

No special equipment is needed for this project. All building tools, materials, and safety equipment required for daily tasks are provided on site. Volunteers only need to bring practical clothing suitable for physical outdoor work, closed toe shoes, and items to stay comfortable in warm weather.

No previous construction experience is required. A willingness to learn, a positive attitude, and the ability to do physical work make this project enjoyable and rewarding.

Program Details and Accommodation: This program offers a fully hosted volunteer experience with accommodation in a volunteer house and three meals provided each day. Transport to and from the project site is included. Volunteers gain hands on experience, contribute to meaningful community improvements, and spend weekends exploring Chiang Mai’s temples, night markets, and beautiful mountain surroundings. The program runs year round and offers a supportive, engaging opportunity to make a real difference through practical community development.
