    About the program

Our program aims to combine PADI Dive Master training and marine biology theory modules.

Our candidates, once certified, can go on to proudly work as SCUBA professionals with a deeper understanding of the marine environment or go on to pursue degrees and careers in Marine Science, feeling capable in contributing to marine conservation efforts worldwide.

The program consist of 11 lectures and discussions on varied marine science topics, including an introduction to basic marine ecology, Coral Reefs and Transect Methodology and scientific diving standards, etc. Accompanying fieldwork in world class dive sites enhances the knowledge acquired in the classroom.

The training is based in the middle of the Marine Protected Area of Nusa Penida, in Nusa Lembongan a little paradisiacal island 30 minutes boat ride from south Bali. The dive sites we go to have some of the highest diversity of marine life in the world: more than 400 species of reef-building coral and large ocean dwellers like turtles, manta rays, and sharks, not to forget about the iconic sunfish or Mola-Mola, which, depending on the season, can be seen in the region on a regular basis.

    Why is your program important?
Our PADI Divemaster Course with elements of Marine Biology is crucial for several reasons. Firstly, it equips divers with the skills and knowledge needed to become leaders in the diving industry, promoting safety and responsible diving practices. Additionally, the inclusion of Marine Biology allows participants to gain a deeper understanding of marine ecosystems and the importance of conservation efforts.

Which social issues do you face? And how do you try to solve these issues?
One of the social issues we face is the degradation of marine environments due to factors such as pollution and overfishing. To address this, we focus on education and conservation. Through our program, volunteers learn about the importance of marine conservation and how they can contribute to protecting these fragile ecosystems.

What is your program exactly about? What is the role of the volunteer?
Our program combines the PADI Divemaster Course with modules on Marine Biology. Volunteers will participate in dive training, learning essential skills such as dive planning and leading, while also gaining knowledge about marine ecosystems, conservation, and research techniques. The role of the volunteer is to actively engage in the program, both in the classroom and in the water, and to contribute to ongoing conservation projects.

As a divemaster in training the candidates will be in all effect be part of the life of the diveshop.

With whom will the volunteers be working with?
Volunteers will work closely with our team of experienced dive instructors and marine biologists. Our instructors will guide them through the dive training, while our marine biologist will provide lectures and lead discussions on marine biology and conservation topics.

What do you expect from the volunteers? What can the volunteers expect from you?
We expect volunteers to be passionate about marine conservation, willing to learn, and dedicated to their role as future dive leaders and conservation advocates. In return, volunteers can expect a comprehensive and enriching experience that will not only enhance their diving skills but also deepen their understanding of marine ecosystems and conservation issues.

Do the volunteers have to bring special equipment?
Volunteers are encouraged to bring their own basic diving equipment, such as mask, snorkel, fins, wetsuit, and dive computer. However, we can provide rental equipment if needed. Specific equipment related to marine biology activities will be provided by us.

    WHO SHOULD APPLY AND HOW?

Would you like to be a scuba diver that wants to go pro-level while also gaining a further appreciation and knowledge of your future work environment as value-added to your Dive Master rating?

Are you looking forward to starting a degree in Marine Science and would like to get a head start by combining your Dive Master Training with an introduction to marine biology and hands-on fieldwork?

If you’ve answered yes to either of these, congratulations and we hope you will join us!

Please note that if you are a student at university this internship can be approved and give you credit towards your Master and/or Bachelor’s degree.

You don’t need to be a certified diver or a scientist to apply this program.
