    About the program

We are a non-governmental organization dedicated to uplifting women, children and gender minorities in need across Rajasthan, India. Our projects focus on education, skill development, and women's empowerment, creating lasting change in the community.
Our main projects are our 8 Centres in Jodhpur, Setrawa and Jaisalmer and we would love to have you as a volunteer in one of our centers in Jodhpur!

    OUR PROJECT:

Empowerment Centers: 3 hours in the morning around 30 women come to our center to receive training in sewing and embroidery and academic classes in Hindi, English and Maths. These women who face multiple discrimination due to gender, religion, caste and economic situation often never been to school or dropped out very early. Our center provides them with a safe space, where they can learn, be themselves, find support and make their first steps towards financial independence.

In the same space as our Empowerment Centers, there are our Primary Education Center running in the afternoon. For 2 hours children from the neighbourhood, often children from the women in the morning, they will participate in classes in Hindi, English and Maths.
In both projects, we have weekly workshops about general knowledge, self-defence classes (for the women ) and computer classes (for the children.

    VOLUNTEER DESCRIPTION:

Volunteering at Sambhali Trust gives you the wonderful opportunity to do important and valuable work, empowering the underprivileged women and children of Rajasthan. Not only will you help a non-profit organization that changes the lives of hundreds of women and girls, but you will also get an insight into the intricacies of Indian culture, and develop an understanding of how a grass-roots, non-profit organization operates.

For our empowerment and primary education centre, we are searching for volunteers who can assist our local tutors in conducting English and if possible math classes. Volunteers play a crucial role in our organisation, as they bring different teaching approaches, new ideas and methods with them which made a great contribution to the development of our organisation in the past and impacted greatly our work for our many beneficiaries. Especially, working with people from a different country or place is a big motivation for the women and children to learn and come to our center.

Our previous volunteers have ranged from 18 to 70 years old, demonstrating that anyone can volunteer and make a difference to our Trust, regardless of age, skill set or background.

This is a great opportunity for those looking for a career break, gap year, or to gain experience in the non-profit sector while helping to empower women and girls.

    WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:
Don't worry if you don't have any experience in teaching. We have lots of teaching materials that we can provide you upon your arrival. Also, mostly other volunteers and our local tutors are happy to give you tips and a helping hand!

You don't need to bring special equipment or so. You, with being open-minded, non-judgmental, respectful and polite is enough!

    Typical day

The day usually starts at around 10.00 am in the office, where the volunteers can prepare their lessons of the day. At 10.30 am our drivers will drop them off with our tutors at our centres. For three hours in the morning is the Empowerment centre runs, next to the sewing classes (that are conducted by a sewing teacher), the volunteers will assist the academic tutor with conducting lessons in English and maybe maths. The classes are quite small (around 5 to 10 women) who often never went to school or dropped out early, due to different reasons such as family restriction or financial issues. Therefore the level of the participants are quite low and will be divided according to their level in three groups. After the lunchbreak children from the neighbourhood come to the center for 2 hours. Also here the volunteers will help conducting classes in very basic English and maths. The centers finishes at 4.30 pm, when the volunteers are getting picked up again and dropped at the guest house.
