The founder of Sambhali Trust, Govind Singh Rathore, wants
to ’give back’ to the community of his father and grandfather. Setrawa’s
inhabitants are faced with many challenges including water shortages and
cultivating dry land but also the lacking access to education.
Children in the village attend government schools, that are faced with a lot of problems:
- Being understaffed
- Overcrowded classrooms
- Lack of appropriate material to make lessons
work
Before the pandemic, Sambhali hosted volunteers in Setrawa who brought invaluable support to the local government school.
We would very much like to go back to supporting the government
schools with volunteers to help the local teachers in English and Maths
lessons. Volunteers are encouraged to improve the lesson quality by applying as many interactive teaching elements as possible and preparing workshops on general knowledge to
extend the student’s knowledge.
In Setrawa, you will be able to explore rural life in the
Thar Desert as well as Marwari culture. Govind turned his family home, Dev
Bagh, into a Guesthouse in which tourists, volunteers and he will live in. Not
only is the Guesthouse situated in a beautiful rural setting. Volunteers will have enough time to explore the surrounding Thar desert.
Volunteers coming to Setrawa should have a desire to live
and work in a rural setting with basic amenities. There is no need to have
prior experience in teaching, but certainly it would help your work in the
schools. Volunteers should be able to improvise and be patient with their
students as all of them are on various learning levels.
We will take care of your accommodation in Dev Bagh but it is
your responsibility to take care of your flights, visa and vaccinations.
