    About the program

By volunteering with Giving hands, participants not only contribute to tangible, lasting change but also gain deeper insight into the Tanzanian society and its hopes for the future.

Become part of a caring network that values respect, commitment and shared growth. We emphasize long-term cooperation and sustainability. The local staff works closely with our volunteers in planning and delivering projects that are aligned with community needs and priorities.

We support our volunteers with accomodation, orientation and continuous guidance to ensure ethically responsible engagement.

We cooperate with various primary schools with roundabout 1.700 students between the ages of 3 to 10 years. They are mostly government schools, which means the students are very poor and don’t get a good education due to a lack of support and money. So the children don’t get English lessons and won’t have the chance of a good job later to escape poverty. You could teach them basic English to guarantee them a better future, prepare meals for them, help with their homework or just play with them and be there. They are sometimes 40 students in tiny classrooms with not enough care for everyone, so every helping hand is warmly welcome! You don’t have to be a perfect English speaker for these projects, just basic language like greetings, numbers, fruits, self introductions - so don’t hesitate to come and visit us!

To start your adventure, you get a Orientation tour through the city of Arusha in which our team members explain you everything you have to know about living here peacefully. We pick a tanzanian SIM card with you, show you how to pick money and bring you to local markets and a big western supermarket where you can get everything you need. Our volunteer hostel is very central in Arusha, such that you can even get everything by foot nearby. We also bring you to your project on your first day, to show you everything.

We cook for you Breakfast and Dinner from Monday to Friday with delicious African tea and coffee, bread with peanut butter, butter and jam and a special every day like pancakes, mandazi, eggs, guacamole with avocado or fruits. For dinner we serve a mixture of African and western dishes like spaghetti, rice and chapati. The food is mostly vegetarian, if you have allergies or anything don’t hesitate to let us know, such that we can adapt the food. It’s even mostly vegan for those who want.
