    About the program

Volunteer in Thailand with IVHQ, the world’s leading volunteer travel organization trusted by more than 155000 volunteers since 2007.

Make a meaningful impact by supporting English education in the vibrant and culturally rich city of Chiang Mai. Located in northern Thailand, this warm and welcoming region is known for its deep traditions, friendly communities, and stunning mountain scenery that together create an inspiring environment for volunteers who want to contribute to meaningful educational development.

You will help strengthen English language skills for students by assisting teachers, guiding lessons, and providing conversational practice that builds confidence. This fully hosted experience allows you to support education while enjoying everyday life in one of Thailand’s most beloved cultural destinations.

Your Role and Impact: The primary goal of this project is to increase students’ exposure to English, a skill that supports future study and employment opportunities. Many schools have limited staffing and resources, so volunteers play an important role in helping teachers deliver lessons, manage classrooms, and create a more engaging learning environment.

As a Teaching volunteer in Chiang Mai, your duties will be varied and rewarding:

    • Classroom Assistance: Supporting teachers with English lessons, reading exercises, pronunciation guidance, and group activities.
    • Independent Teaching: Leading simple lessons, games, and conversational practice sessions that motivate students to participate more actively.
    • Creative Learning: Introducing fun educational activities, arts and crafts, and cultural exchanges that encourage curiosity and help students connect with the language.
    • School Support: Preparing teaching materials, helping tidy classrooms, and supporting daily school operations.

Volunteers work alongside local teachers, school staff, and other international volunteers who share a passion for education. Local educators provide structure, lesson guidance, and cultural context, while volunteers bring creativity, conversational practice, and diverse learning approaches that enrich the classroom experience.

No special equipment is needed for this program. All materials required for teaching activities are provided by the school or volunteer program. Volunteers only need to bring comfortable clothing suitable for a school environment and any personal stationery items they prefer to use.

No teaching experience is required. Patience, enthusiasm, and an interest in working with students of different ages make this program especially fulfilling.

Program Details and Accommodation: This program includes a fully hosted volunteer experience with accommodation in a volunteer house and three meals provided each day. Transport to and from school placements is included. You will connect with local teachers, gain valuable hands on classroom experience, and spend weekends exploring Chiang Mai’s temples, night markets, and picturesque mountain landscapes. The program runs year round and offers a culturally rich, supportive, and meaningful opportunity to contribute to education in northern Thailand.
