    About the program

Volunteer in Peru with IVHQ, the world’s leading volunteer travel organization trusted by more than 155000 volunteers since 2007.

Make a meaningful difference by supporting English education in the vibrant capital city of Lima. Peru’s coastal capital is a dynamic mix of history, culture, and modern life, offering volunteers the opportunity to contribute to education while experiencing life in one of South America’s most diverse cities.

You will help local students improve their English language skills by assisting teachers, leading activities, and providing conversational practice. This fully hosted experience allows you to support educational development while immersing yourself in the daily rhythms of Lima’s communities.

Your Role and Impact: The primary goal of this project is to improve students’ confidence and ability to communicate in English, a valuable skill that can support future education, employment, and global opportunities. Many schools and community programs have limited access to native or fluent English speakers, and volunteers provide essential language exposure that enhances classroom learning.

As a Teaching English volunteer in Lima, your duties will be engaging, interactive, and rewarding:

    • Classroom Support: Assisting local teachers with English lessons, reading exercises, vocabulary building, and pronunciation practice.
    • Independent Teaching: Leading simple English sessions, conversation groups, and games that encourage students to actively use the language.
    • Creative Learning: Using songs, role play, storytelling, arts and crafts, and interactive activities to make learning enjoyable and accessible.
    • School Support: Helping prepare teaching materials, organizing classrooms, and supporting general school or program activities.

Volunteers work closely with local teachers, school staff, and fellow international volunteers. Local educators provide lesson guidance, classroom structure, and cultural insight, while volunteers contribute enthusiasm, creativity, and conversational English practice that enriches the learning experience for students of different ages.

No special equipment is required for this program. All teaching materials are provided by schools or local coordinators. Volunteers may bring small teaching aids or stationery if they wish, but this is optional. Comfortable clothing suitable for a school or community classroom environment is recommended.

No previous teaching experience is required. Clear English communication, patience, and a positive attitude toward working with students make this program both enjoyable and impactful.

Program Details and Accommodation: This fully hosted volunteer experience includes accommodation in a volunteer house in Lima with meals provided each day. Transport to and from teaching placements is arranged locally. Volunteers gain hands on classroom experience, connect with educators and fellow volunteers from around the world, and spend weekends exploring Lima’s historic neighborhoods, coastal districts, markets, and cultural attractions. Available year round, this program offers a supportive and meaningful opportunity to contribute to English education in Peru’s capital city.
