    About the program

    Surroundings & Location

Volunteers are based in the peaceful community of Aburi–Oboadaka in Ghana’s Eastern Region. The area is known for its green hills, fresh mountain air, and welcoming village atmosphere. It offers a safe and authentic cultural experience away from the busy capital, while still being within reasonable distance of Accra.

Volunteers live close to the communities where they work, allowing for daily interaction with local families, schools, and health facilities. Healthcare volunteers are placed in local clinics and health centers serving surrounding rural communities, while education volunteers work in nearby partner schools.

Who can volunteer to work with us?

    Volunteers work alongside:

    - Local teachers and school administrators

    - Qualified nurses, midwives, and health workers

    - Community outreach coordinators

    - TANF Ghana staff and project leaders

Healthcare volunteers support medical professionals in a supervised capacity. Tasks are assigned based on experience and qualifications. Volunteers without medical qualifications focus mainly on health education, outreach, and administrative support.

Teamwork, cultural sensitivity, and respect for local expertise are very important

What we except from our volunteers:

    - Be proactive, respectful, and open-minded

    - Follow their agreed schedule and responsibilities

    - Respect local culture and community values

    - Work collaboratively with local staff

    - Maintain professionalism, especially in health settings

Volunteers are placed where their help is genuinely needed and will always have meaningful tasks.

What volunteers can expect from us:

    Volunteers can expect:

    - A safe and supportive environment

    - Clear guidance and supervision

    - Orientation upon arrival

    - Meaningful community engagement

    - Cultural exchange opportunities

    - A local contact person available at all times

Because volunteers stay in the same community as the organization, any concerns can be addressed quickly and efficiently.

    Health Program Details:

Healthcare volunteers may support activities such as:

    - Assisting with public health outreach programs

    - Supporting health screening initiatives (e.g., malaria awareness, hygiene education)

    - Participating in school health talks on hygiene, HIV/AIDS awareness, malaria prevention, and general health

    - Helping organize first aid awareness sessions for teachers

Health talks are interactive and practical, including demonstrations such as proper handwashing techniques and preventive health practices.

Direct clinical involvement depends strictly on qualifications, local regulations, and supervision by licensed professionals.

    Equipment & Preparation:

Volunteers do not need to bring special equipment.

    We recommend bringing:

    - Comfortable work clothes

    - Closed shoes suitable for school or clinic settings

    - A reusable water bottle

    - Personal scrubs (if medically qualified and preferred)

    - A laptop for preparing presentations or educational materials

All essential project materials are provided locally.
