    About the program

Volunteer in Bali with IVHQ, the world’s leading volunteer travel organization trusted by more than 155000 volunteers since 2007.

Make a meaningful difference promoting Health Education in the cultural heart of Bali. Ubud is a lush, vibrant region surrounded by rice terraces, ancient temples, and a thriving arts scene, offering an inspiring setting for volunteers passionate about wellbeing and community development.

You will directly support local students and community members by teaching essential health and hygiene practices that help them maintain healthier lives. This fully hosted experience allows you to contribute to public health awareness while immersing yourself in Balinese culture and daily village life.

Your Role and Impact: The primary goal of this project is to help children and community members build strong foundations in basic hygiene and understand healthy habits that can benefit them long term. Many students have limited access to structured health education, so volunteers play an important role in delivering simple, practical lessons that support their overall wellbeing.

As a Health Education volunteer in Ubud, your daily tasks will be interactive and hands on:

    • Hygiene Education: Teaching children how to brush their teeth effectively, wash their hands properly, and maintain general personal cleanliness.
    • Health Awareness: Introducing concepts related to nutrition, hydration, and healthy daily routines.
    • Activity Based Learning: Leading games, demonstrations, and visual activities that make health concepts easy to understand for students with limited English.
    • Lesson Preparation: Creating simple materials, preparing demonstrations, and collaborating with local staff on lesson plans.

Qualified medical volunteers may also support larger health campaigns or community checkup clinics, provided they supply transcripts of their professional qualifications.

Volunteers work closely with local teachers, coordinators, and fellow international volunteers who share a commitment to improving community health. Local staff guide volunteers on cultural expectations, lesson structure, and appropriate teaching methods to ensure sessions are engaging and age appropriate.

No special equipment is required for this project. All teaching materials and supplies are provided onsite. Volunteers may choose to bring small teaching aids or visual props, but this is optional. Comfortable clothing suitable for a school setting is recommended.

No prior teaching or medical experience is necessary for school based health education. A positive attitude, clear communication, and an interest in promoting good hygiene practices make this project particularly impactful and enjoyable.

Program Details and Accommodation: This fully hosted program provides accommodation in a dormitory style volunteer house located about fifteen minutes from central Ubud, offering an authentic introduction to traditional Balinese life. Three daily meals are included, along with transport to and from your placement. Volunteers gain practical experience in community health promotion, connect with other global participants, and spend weekends exploring temples, waterfalls, markets, and Bali’s rich natural landscapes. The program runs year round and offers a rewarding opportunity to contribute to health education in one of Indonesia’s most culturally vibrant regions.
