Your Role:
As a volunteer in the Internal Medicine Department, you will be an integral part of the medical team, contributing to various essential tasks. Your responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
- Patient Assessments: Assisting with initial evaluations and ongoing assessments of patients’ medical conditions.
Treatment Administration: Supporting the administration of treatments and medications under the supervision of licensed medical professionals.
Chronic Disease Management: Engaging in discussions about patient care plans for chronic diseases, offering support to patients and their families.
Clinical Procedures: Observing and assisting in relevant procedures, such as:
- Blood draws and lab tests
- Administration of IV fluids
- Monitoring vital signs and patient status
Record Keeping: Entering and maintaining accurate medical records, following strict confidentiality protocols.
Experiential Learning: Actively working while observing and learning from experienced medical professionals about diagnosis and treatment processes.
Preparing a Report: Compiling a concise report summarizing your experiences and key observations during your placement.

Your Stay in Arusha:
You'll stay at one of our 4 Siret Hostels offering comfortable accommodations, excellent meals, and security. The hostel is located in a quiet neighborhood, a short distance from the town center, and provides a supportive environment to connect with other volunteers. Wi-Fi, hot showers, laundry services (for a small fee), and dedicated support staff are included.
Transportation:
You will experience local transportation, utilizing walking, public minibuses (budget approximately $1 per day, 4-5 days a week), or taxis
Essential Information:
- Visa & Permit: A visa and work permit are required. Inquire for details and costs.
- Hospital Practice Fee: A weekly contribution of up to $50 USD is payable to your host hospital (Ministry of Health, Tanzania).
- Airport Transfer: Available from Kilimanjaro (KIA) or Arusha (ARK) airports
