    Embark on an enriching journey as a Marine Conservation volunteer with the Montego Bay Marine Park in Jamaica, where your commitment to marine preservation will have a meaningful impact. Work alongside experienced scientists and passionate locals to safeguard Jamaica's incredible biodiversity, with a particular focus on preserving the vital mangrove ecosystem.

    Collaborate with local non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to actively participate in initiatives aimed at conserving and protecting Jamaica's diverse marine and native life. 

    Your hands-on contributions include harbour monitoring and patrols, marine data collection during research cruises, wildlife observation and documentation, community education outreach, and direct support of ongoing conservation studies. From harbour protection to ecosystem restoration, every day brings discoveries and meaningful contributions that sustain the ecological health of Jamaica's marine ecosystems.

    Your initial day will involve being escorted to your designated placement by a local team member, who will also facilitate introductions with the placement staff.

    Weekdays (Monday-Friday):

    - 7:30 AM: Begin the day with breakfast at the volunteer project site.

    Your initial day will involve being escorted to your designated placement by a local team member, who will also facilitate introductions with the placement staff.

    Weekdays (Monday-Friday):

    - 7:30 AM: Begin the day with breakfast at the volunteer project site.

    - 8:30 AM: Head to your placement site to collaborate with local placement staff and commence work on your project.

    - 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM: Project work activities

    - Noon: Break for a mouthwatering Jamaican  lunch

    - 1:00 - 3:00 PM: Work at the placement resumes.

    - 3:00 - onwards: Flexible afternoon schedule for rest or cultural activities

    Minimum Age: 18 years

    In order to join the program you need to be at least 18 years old on the program start date. There might be exemptions if you can provide the permission of your legal guardian(s) or if your are accompanied by your parents.

    Resume/CV, Photo of upper torso, Copy of the first page of passport, 2 recent references, Complete JVP application form and Proof of travel insurance purchased

    Airport Pickup at Norman Manley International Airport

    Upon arrival at the airport, a local team member will warmly welcome you and provide transportation to the volunteer accommodation. The Program Fee comprehensively covers your accommodation expenses.

    Accommodation

    Throughout your placement, enjoy comfortable accommodation at homestays and hostels alongside fellow volunteers. These facilities provide a shared bedroom and bathroom. They are basic but clean and secure with a communal kitchen with a stove, refrigerator, and utensils for preparing meals. Living amenities include electricity, running water, Wi-Fi, and Western-style bathrooms. While there's no air-conditioning, fans are provided, and water is not typically heated. Be sure to bring your toiletries and towels.

    Arrival and Orientation Process

    Program Start: Marine conservation programs begin every Monday. Arrive in Jamaica between Friday and Sunday for a seamless transition into your conservation work.

    Airport Pickup: Our local marine conservation team will meet you and provide transportation to your volunteer accommodation.

    Already in Jamaica? Contact our local team to arrange pickup from your current location, or travel independently to the volunteer accommodation.

    Monday Orientation: Your comprehensive orientation covers:

    • Introduction to Jamaica's marine environment and local customs

    • Marine safety protocols and conservation program guidelines

    • Detailed project briefings and volunteer schedules at Montego Bay Marine Park

    • Weekend exploration opportunities around Jamaica's coast

    • Meet your fellow marine conservation volunteers and plan group activities

    All marine conservation schedules, safety protocols, and project details will be provided during orientation to ensure you're fully prepared for meaningful conservation work in Jamaica's waters.
