Details on arrival
Start Dates & Details on Arrival
Volunteers and interns can join the Mental Health & Community Support Program throughout the year, and placements are available every month depending on project availability. We recommend applying at least 4 weeks before your preferred arrival date to allow enough time for preparation and placement arrangements.
Participants should plan to arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) or Arusha Airport. Airport pickup can be arranged by the Gilys Children Foundation team upon request. Our team members will warmly welcome participants and assist them with transportation to the volunteer accommodation.
During the first days of the program, volunteers will receive an orientation session covering important information about the local culture, safety guidelines, transportation, project expectations, and daily schedules. Participants will also have the opportunity to meet other volunteers, explore the surrounding community, and become familiar with the working environment before starting their placement.
The placement schedule normally begins on Monday. Volunteers arriving earlier or during weekends can still be accommodated, and weekend arrivals are encouraged to help participants rest and adjust before beginning activities.
On the first working day, the Gilys Children Foundation team will accompany volunteers to their placement site, introduce them to local staff and supervisors, and provide guidance about their responsibilities and daily activities.
We encourage all participants to arrive with an open mind, flexibility, and readiness to engage positively with the local community. Our local team remains available throughout the entire stay to provide assistance, guidance, and support whenever needed.
