    About the program

Join a private pre- and primary school in Njiro, Arusha, that offers inclusive education for children with special needs. The school has approximately 370 students and 22 teachers. As a private school, all subjects are taught in English. The inclusive approach ensures that children with special needs, such as autism, ADHD, and others, learn alongside their peers. Some students with special needs may require extra time to complete tasks or may find it challenging to follow the pace of the regular class due to difficulties with attention or concentration. This is where your support becomes valuable, whether it’s offering a short break, providing one-on-one assistance, or simply being present to guide them through their activities.

You’ll be working with the teachers as you support the school’s daily activities. You don’t need professional teaching experience for this project. What helps most is a bit of initiative and the willingness to use the skills you already have and step in where you see they’re needed. You won’t be teaching on your own, your role is to support the teachers in class. And of course, the team is always there to help if you have questions or run into any challenges.

    Your tasks include:

    • Assisting teachers during lessons

    • Supporting children with special needs

    • Doing crafts and playing with the preschool pupils

    • Showing children and teachers new sports and games

    • Introducing classes like arts, music or IT

    • Training teachers (positive teaching methods, non-violence discipline, etc.)

Every Friday is dedicated to sports day, adding a fun and active end to the week.

It takes around 50 minutes to get to the school from the accommodation, and you can get there easily using public transport.

After breakfast at the guesthouse where you will be staying, you will take public transport to the school, which takes about 50 minutes. The school day starts at around 8:00 a.m. The preschool finishes at 1:00 p.m., while the primary school ends at 3:30 p.m. Classes take place from Monday to Friday.

When you arrive, it’s important to first see yourself as a learner. During your first days, you will observe classes, watch how the teachers work, and get to know the school environment. By taking time to understand daily routines and student needs, you can discover where you fit in best.

After this observation phase, you can decide where you would like to help, and a personalized schedule can be created for you. Showing self-initiative is important, offer your help, share ideas, and take on small tasks when you feel ready.

And remember, you are not alone: our team is always here to support you whenever you need assistance.
