    This unique internship program transcends traditional observation, placing you at the forefront of impactful change. You’ll collaborate with passionate healthcare workers, professionals, and NGOs, gaining invaluable insights into the current health landscape. Your contributions will extend far beyond passive observation. Partner with local communities to understand their specific healthcare needs and challenges, analysing data and engaging in open dialogue.     Public Healthcare

    Expand your understanding by joining home-based care visits on the outskirts of Livingstone. Witness the dedication and resilience of healthcare workers as they navigate the daily difficulties and limitations of the healthcare system. This immersive experience will challenge your perspectives and equip you with invaluable knowledge and empathy, shaping your future contributions to the field of public health.


    Proactive Outreach

    Effecting interventions at grassroots level can be highly useful in accomplishing change. Engage in dynamic discussions on critical issues like teenage pregnancy, pre- and post-natal care, and disease management alongside local midwives and healthcare experts. Witness firsthand the challenges and triumphs of proactive outreach and preventive care as you connect with at-risk individuals in the community.


    Workshops

    By delivering a series of workshops on varying topics, you’ll find your internship experience to be dynamic and fulfilling in surprising ways. Your role goes beyond simply delivering information. You’ll foster a safe and inclusive space where open dialogue and active participation are encouraged. You may present on HIV, talk to different schools or establishments, or compare the dynamics of rural vs urban medicine.

    Livingstone is your ticket to adventure. Take advantage of your proximity to the great and mighty Victoria Falls, as well as the other adventures the Zambezi has to offer. Zambezi boat cruises, river safaris, white water rafting, and canoe trips are all ways in which you can encounter these great waters. You can also ride quad bike trails or view the scenery from the air in a microlight or helicopter.

     

    Go on Safari

    Livingstone, Zambia is safari country. Here, you can spot a whole lot of wildlife, do rhino bushwalks or even take a boat safari to spot elephants off the Zambezi River. You can also go on weekend outings to the world-famous Chobe National Park, which is across the border in Botswana.

     

    Water Activities

    Situated so close to Victora Falls, Livingstone, Zambia offers a variety of water activities. During the weekend, you will be able to book to go on excursions such as cruises, white water rafting, fishing or raft floating.

    In order to join the program you need to be at least 18 years old on the program start date. There might be exemptions if you can provide the permission of your legal guardian(s) or if your are accompanied by your parents.

    Airport Pickup at Livingstone Airport

    Interns will be collected from Livingstone Airport (between 9am and 6pm on Mondays) and dropped off on their departure day by one of African Impact's staff members.  

    Accommodation

    Accommodation – Livingstone, Zambia

    Your home away from home in Livingstone is a friendly, secure volunteer base with comfortable shared rooms and social communal spaces. You’ll stay at Victoria Falls Backpackers in a comfortable, social volunteer set-up with shared rooms (4–8 beds), hot-water shared bathrooms, and access to facilities like a dining area, bar, and swimming pool. It’s also an easy walk to Livingstone town centre for shops, cafés, and restaurants.

    You’ll be supported by African Impact staff throughout, with a full orientation on arrival. The base has 24/7 security, clear safety procedures, and robust participant and child-protection policies in place.

    Travel Insurance

    Free Airport Transfers between 9am and 6pm on Mondays. 10 Day stays gets a free departure transfer on a Thursday.
