Sayariy has an environmental volunteer program in northern Peru focused on water sustainability, renewable energy, and regenerative agriculture. We address key rural challenges such as limited water access, food insecurity, and lack of sustainable infrastructure. Through a solar-powered water system, we provide water to nearly 20 small community plots that maintain home gardens or small animal breeding spaces, strengthening local resilience and food production.
Volunteers live in a small house located in the middle of a passion fruit plantation, offering a unique and immersive rural experience. The nearest neighbor is approximately 200 meters away, creating a peaceful and natural environment surrounded by agricultural land. Due to the quiet and remote setting, we recommend applying with a travel companion to make the experience more enjoyable and supportive.
Daily responsibilities include working alongside the plantation manager, caring for the dogs that live on the property, maintaining the small on-site garden, cleaning and checking the solar panels, and supporting the water distribution system. Water is distributed to the community plots three times per week. Volunteers also help irrigate the passion fruit plantation and harvest maracuya during production periods.
The program involves practical, hands-on work and requires responsibility, initiative, and adaptability to rural life and warm climate conditions. No technical background is required, but volunteers must be physically active and comfortable with outdoor tasks.
In return, volunteers gain meaningful participation in a sustainability project that directly impacts local families, hands-on experience with renewable energy and water systems, and deep cultural immersion in rural Peru.
