    About the program

    Overview

Here you will take part in an amazing village school project which started in 2012 and has been completely built by volunteers under the supervision of local management with in depth knowledge of the local challenges and opportunities.

Providing free education, the school now holds over 200 children from nearby villages who eagerly rely on the support and care provided by the many volunteers and local staff which make this place so special.

Students attend regular public schools where their opportunities to learn English are limited. These public schools operate in shifts, with one group attending in the morning and the other in the afternoon. This schedule allows children to attend our school during their free time—those in the morning group can join our afternoon sessions, and vice versa. What sets our school apart is that the children attend voluntarily, and they genuinely enjoy their time here.

Teaching at generally takes place in a traditional classroom setting, but we encourage flexibility and creativity in lesson planning. The key is to stay aligned with the established curriculum and maintain the set schedule.

Volunteers will work alongside local teachers or other participants, with 3-5 instructors often rotating throughout the session. This structure allows for smaller group activities and one-on-one support for students who may need extra help. Before starting, participants will attend an orientation to determine the class size, specific assignment, and the composition of the teaching team.

To ensure effective learning, volunteers must follow the pace set by the school directors. It’s important to cover the material fully without skipping ahead. All participants are expected to adhere to the curriculum and provide sufficient review to help students stay on track for weekly progress and year-end assessments.

Students come from Pul village and five neighboring villages, ranging in age from 6 to 13. Most have a basic understanding of English, but our curriculum accommodates students from beginner level to level 5.

Class sizes typically range from 10 to 30 students. Classrooms are equipped with basic resources such as whiteboards and flashcards, but volunteers are encouraged to bring small learning materials or items to donate. These contributions are greatly appreciated and help expand the learning opportunities we can offer.

*Transportation between the accommodation and the school is typically by bicycle.

    Location

Samraong is a rural village, located North of Siem Reap and right on the border with Thailand.
