    About the program

WHAT DO WE EXPECT FROM VOLUNTEERS?

We expect Soccer for Change volunteers to be energetic, positive, and committed role models for young people aged 10–17. Volunteers should:

    - Be enthusiastic and proactive during training sessions

    - Work respectfully alongside local coaches

    - Encourage discipline, teamwork, and fair play

    - Inspire children to stay focused on both sport and education

    - Be open-minded and culturally respectful

Volunteers play an important role in building confidence and motivating players to pursue both their academic and sporting goals.

WHAT CAN VOLUNTEERS EXPECT FROM US?

    Volunteers can expect:

    - A structured introduction to the Soccer for Change program

    - Guidance from the TANF management team and local trainers

    - A meaningful role in daily training sessions (usually after school hours)

    - A supportive and welcoming community environment

    - The opportunity to contribute ideas and help develop the program further

As we work toward developing this initiative into an official football academy, volunteers have the opportunity to contribute to long-term planning, structure, and growth.

    ABOUT THE PROGRAM

Soccer is the most loved and unifying sport in Ghana. Through our “Soccer for Change” initiative, we aim to:

    - Channel children’s energy into positive development

    - Identify and nurture football talent

    - Promote discipline, teamwork, and leadership

    - Encourage children to remain in school

Training sessions typically take place after school. Due to limited local coaching staff, volunteers provide essential support to ensure players receive quality guidance and attention.

Volunteers assist as supporting trainers alongside local coaches. Responsibilities include helping with drills, teaching new techniques, reinforcing discipline, and encouraging teamwork. Volunteers may also help identify and recruit new players within the community.

    EQUIPMENT & PREPARATION

Volunteers do not need to bring special equipment. However, we recommend bringing:

    - Comfortable sportswear

    - Football boots or trainers suitable for outdoor fields

    - A whistle (optional)

    - Sunscreen and a water bottle

We also encourage volunteers, if possible, to support the program by helping source used jerseys, footballs, cones, or other sports materials before traveling to Ghana.

All other basic training equipment is provided locally.
