SURROUNDINGS & LOCATION
Volunteers are based in the peaceful community of Aburi–Oboadaka in Ghana’s Eastern Region. The area is surrounded by green hills, fresh mountain air, and a welcoming village atmosphere.
Education volunteers work in nearby partner schools within the local community. Schools are accessible from the volunteer accommodation and serve children from surrounding rural areas. The setting provides an authentic experience of Ghanaian school life while ensuring a safe and supportive environment.
WHO WILL VOLUNTEERS WORK WITH?
Volunteers work alongside:
- Local teachers and school administrators
- TANF Ghana project coordinators
- Other international volunteers (depending on season)
You will assist classroom teachers who often manage multiple subjects and large class sizes. Volunteers provide additional support, creative ideas, and international exposure that greatly benefit the students.
WHAT DO WE EXPECT FROM VOLUNTEERS?
We expect volunteers to:
- Be enthusiastic, patient, and proactive
- Show respect for local culture and school systems
- Be willing to assist and collaborate with teachers
- Prepare simple lesson ideas or classroom activities
- Serve as positive role models for students
You do not need to be a professional teacher. Even volunteers who have recently finished secondary school can contribute meaningfully with commitment and confidence.

DO VOLUNTEERS NEED SPECIAL EQUIPMENT?
No special equipment is required.
We recommend bringing:
- Comfortable and modest clothing suitable for school settings
- A notebook and pen for lesson preparation
- Educational ideas, games, or creative materials (optional)
- A laptop (optional) if you wish to prepare presentations
All basic teaching materials are available at the school.
