    About the program

Contribute to community sports, with kids and adults, in the areas of football, cycling or hiking.  Depending on your interests you could be involved with school kids coaching or supporting their athletics programs.  Start a hiking or cycling group to explore the mountains of Rwanda or organize a sporting event, camp, or club.  It's really up to you and how you choose to spend your time here. We are open to other sports if there is something else you would like to do.
    • Football-Rwandans love football!  Come and support football in the local schools or start an after school program.  If you are interested in working with adults, that can also be arranged.  Depending on how long you stay, you could organize a tournament or host an event to raise money for equipment, etc. Athletics are also a great way to teach life skills and keep people involved in positive activities.
    • Cycling-This program offers people of all different skill levels a chance to get involved in community sports. Musanze has a large cycling community which includes the Rwanda National Cycling Team.  As a volunteer you could work with a school during physical education time or form an after school program.  You could put on a cycling event to foster community health or raise money for bicycles for those that can't afford them.  Sports are also a great way to teach life skills and connect with the community.
    • Hiking-Rwanda is a mountain country.  Musanze is surrounded not only by mountains but also by volcanoes.  Volcanoes National Park and others are right outside our doorstep.  If you are a hiking enthusiast you will love it here.  If your whole family hikes, it is a great opportunity to travel, hike, and make new friends.  You might get involved in a local hiking group or work with a school to create one.  By incorporating some basic safety education, you could also help them explore nature in safe and smart ways.  There is no end of flora and fauna around which also provide some educational opportunities, depending on your interests.
    • Yoga-Musanze is the perfect location to commune with nature and get in tuned oneself.  As a volunteer you might start a yoga group or club, use the principles of yoga to teach the local people about positive mental health and the benefits of practicing yoga. When the weather is clear, you might find a perfect location to practice outside in nature.  The weather is mild most of the year, the volcanoes and mountains are beautiful, and the landscapes are stunning.
    • Music: Rwandans love music from music theory, composition and dances.Interested candidates can decide to work with kids, adults and or old people.

    Accommodation

Accommodation is located in Musanze town. The location is away from bars and other beer selling points although there can be some small boutiques where foodstuff are sold. It's a comprehensive house with toilets and washing rooms inside as well as a garden outside. Musanze is a district in the Northern Province of Rwanda. Its capital city is Ruhengeri which; is also sometimes known as Musanze. Musanze is Rwanda's most mountainous district, containing the largest part of the Volcanoes National Park and its head office at Kinigi. Five of the eight volcanoes of the Virunga chain (Karisimbi, Bisoke, Sabyinyo, Gahinga and Muhabura) are within the district boundaries. It is also in this district that most of Rwanda's mountain gorillas are found, making it the most popular tourist destination in the country. Musanze's capital, Ruhengeri, is one of the largest cities in Rwanda and serves as a hub for tourists.

It is easy for a volunteer to access the rest corners of the country from Musanze for example Musanze is at 1h drive from Gisenyi and the Democratic Republic of Congo border. Gisenyi is known for its super weekends for water sports lovers. Musanze is also at 2h30 drive from Kigali and at 25 minutes to the Cyanika, the Uganda border.
